I attempted to have a conversation with the original OP in regards to "Simple Trespass". His opinion is that it is legal for him to "Shoot On Sight" any trespassers, even for "Simple Trespass". I stated an act of hunters spotlighting deer, and he reacted that they could possibly spotlight him or his dogs in the future. BTW. the original OP appears to get his typing finger stuck on specific icons when he is posting and someone disagrees with him. I found these websites. Perhaps the original OP might find it interesting? Just a thought? Sounds like you're saying how you would be acting. I remember the last big outage we had here. We were doing all we could to help neighbors, loaning out my gen set, pumping basements, etc. What good is life if we simply think of ourselves? We've talked about this and have agreed that we would do what we could to help those around us as much as we could.
I think Thomas Merton was right, "No man is an Island". A key to survival is in how we treat those around us too. I have this idea about life that it extends beyond mere human existence on this planet, that we have an accountability to ourselves at a higher level, call it what you like but I have no choice but to live introspectively with a picture of a universe greater than and beyond myself.

I think there is a difference between short term problems and society altering events. One lasts less than 30 days and there is hope that someone (government? NATO?) will fix it, the other lasts ??? with no hope. During the first you probably do get along well with everyone so long as you're not a ***** but how long do you stay nice before you see your stocks declining to a point you can't help anymore?

With rescent events I've thought a lot about this subject and wish I was in a position where I could build the relationships it would take with my neighbors to sustain long term but my job moves me around too much right now. The bright side is my job currently has me living in a place where people live without all the crap we think we need to survive and I'm getting to see it first hand. People here are literally living on water, what they grow and what they can trade for and I must say they know what they are doing.

No amount of book reading is going to enable you to do this if you haven't practiced it, just my $0.02.

Paranoid ? No , just disappointed with the general state of how as men we have lost the ability to provide for ourselves , past a few weeks because we have become dependent on others for survival . Now I know you can't shoot someone just for walking on your property and I know your not going to trade your wife for a burger "geez?" But I see people everyday who lack even basic knowledge of daily survival and wonder how all of the sheeple would be able to survive even a serious storm let alone super inflation ? Do I want to live in the woods all alone ,No but I could and be good at it .The idea that was the original intention of this post was to elicit some thought on How self sufficient are you , and with a 160 replies in just a few days shows this is an interesting topic that everyone has given thought of even to some extent , Now I mean no disrespect to anyone and I am only voicing my OWN opinions . And if you take every word without a grain of salt you are mistaken in your evaluation of my intentions to provide a thought generating post !

And while it's true that you can not prepare for every issue, you can prepare to the point that the group, as a unit, will be well enough off to exist in most scenarios.
What a few of my friends decided to do was to make a group. Every new years we throw a 100.00 into a pot and then vote on what prep supply to buy.

True but without the book your blind. I can learn by reading and then doing. I cant learn by just doing say brain tanning, i do not know all the steps tricks etc. Thats when a book comes in handy.
The fox fire books are great for understanding how people lived what they had to do to live, and the voice of the people is so authentic. I have re-read them many times.

I would think this would be a good reading for you then, especially as ACZLAN mentioned, it was based in Florida, but in reality, actually not far from where you are, as opposed to south Florida or over in the panhandle. Fictional names were given for the towns but locations listed put Orlando to the south and Jax over to the northeast. Puts you right in the spotlight, sorta. Good thing to know is that in case of an all out nuclear war, your area manages to survive, due to it's non-military and limited population. Written in the late 50's, before everybody retired and moved to Florida...

i agree... aside fromthe funny point that the wife and i don't eat ground beef I've got no problem dieing to protect the family.

on another forum.. we define these EOC ( end of society ) events into two types.

True chaos / EOC with no higher power like another government coing in to help, or

a short time situation with some end in sight.. even if a long way off. the latter we call:
