Not actually. The reason systems fail is because of man's flaws. In our Republic's case we have Capitalism driven by the political ideology flawed by man's greed. Democracy, socialism, etc., etc. fail because of a lack of compassion. Exactly what we're talking about here when we offer our friends and family for a McDonald's Happy Meal.
I think if we want to talk about survival as a species we have to think about the cord that connects us all. Of course the microcosm of that is surviving major disasters and our interrelationship to each other in our own groups and communities.

I have one of those water filters, but I don't know if it will clean up the water enough. I'd boil it too. But if the right chemicals are in it, I am probably a goner.
I think if it were just my household effected, I could make it for 8 mos. But if it is the entire area, which is more likely, I'd share with others making my outcome completely unknown.

What kind of filter? There's a filter used in developing countries that is quite good, it's called the Berkey. If you get it with the Black filters it's very good but you must get the filters from the UK. The filters made here fail or are defective from the start.

But I don't know where the filters come from. I do have one of these for emergencies but the filters separate at the base so polluted water passes by the filter. I can fix the problem but since I have a double filter system with UV in the house I don't use the Berkey. I do have a small one for our BOB (bug out bag).
