Good morning,

Just curious : I am interested to know the name of this State.
Could it be in US ?
From my past travels I may suggest :
South Africa or actual Brasil ?.....
Help please !
What is the most liberal State regarding to guns laws in US ?
Vermont ? Texas ?

Phil

Phil - Best is to be lucky. Many years ago I left my BMW at CDG flying out on a short business trip. When I returned I look at my car from a distance and the driver side window was gone. I thought at least they didn’t get the car. When I reached the car I saw it was my problem - I had the window down to grab my parking ticket when entering and forgot to roll it up. So 3 days at an airport where everyone at work had stories of cars stolen so they always used our driver, my car unlocked, and not stolen - it’s just luck.

Sometimes dealers allow a machine to be loaded while still processing payment and paperwork. It saves everyone time and most of the time isn't an issue.

There was a case downstate about 20 years ago where they posted video of somebody stealing a skidsteer from a dealer at o'dark in the morning. Somebody recognized the truck and turned the theif in. It turned out to be a dirt work contractor with multiple pieces of equipment... all stolen. That's one way to keep the overhead down...

You can't even change the mic on a newer I-Phone and do an upadate, or it won't work anymore thanks to imbedded serial numbers. I'm surprised they don't do that with equipment. I mean, that would be a real catch 22 with right to repair and all.

Good morning MHarryE,

Nice story !
Parking lots in airports are not known to be safe places for cars...
You are right : just a question of luck !

I guess you are asking that question of JFrame.

Of course, but JFrame has vanished from this topic and, as I noticed you are located in Texas, I thought you may have the answer !

Pretty open ended question with a lot of variables. I couldn't give you an answer to anything based on Jframe's off-the-wall statement.

JFrame has not vanished. The two self-defense incidents I cited were very well covered in the media at the time, and that is where I obtained most of the information. I cited them because they are unusual; in the one instance the owner of the stolen truck shooting holes in it as it passed through a parking lot. In the other instance it made the news in no small part because the shooter was a preacher, and it sticks in my mind for another reason; the media reported the two miscreants were running outside when shot and the citizen was inside and shooting through a window, and that is difficult to picture - not impossible but a little remarkable in my mind. Good shooting if it really happened that way. Also, one fellow was hit in the knee and the other in the foot yet to the best of my recollection both hits were fatal, which is remarkable in my view. But apart from those aspects anyone reading the monthly NRA magazines can read of many self-defense situations, each a little different from the others yet all similar in that the good guy with a gun won. Google will show you these news stories but in my view they are not unusual except for the aspects I mentioned.

So far as what I have been told by LEOs, often when they are teaching classes, at least where I live the LEOs are fed up. Their advice is constructive if lacking in the liberal, touchy-feelie big city ideology. I have considered it wise and cogent advice that I hope I do not have to ever use. But if I do I hope I have the presence of mind to take the advice.

I know a fellow that was riding around with a friend and a couple of others and spotted a car at a 7-11 that belonged to one of them that had recently been stolen. They blocked the car in and then hopped out with pistols drawn. Cops were called. They and thief all got locked up. Cops didnt appreciate the vigilante assistance.

Interesting thread. Not something I worry much about as I leave my tractors and equipment in my off farm fields all the time when harvesting or cutting and I've never had an issue but one, they are all insured for replacement cost and two, I have master disconnects on them so even with a key they won't start anyway. Only I can start them but then I've never had an issue in 20 years. Real common around here, every farmer I know does it. Saves wear and tear, save roading time, saves fuel.

Guess living in the sticks has it's advantages.
