Ok, I'm feeling silly here but I need help unscrewing a hydraulic hose.

Today, I hit a small tree with the tractor and it broke a hydraulic fitting that feeds my John Deere 46A Loader on my John Deere 3020 tractor.

It is located next to the left rear tire (obviously on the lower base of the tractor).

My question is, how do I unscrew and remove the hydraulic hose so that I can unscrew the T fitting to replace it (broken state is an "L").

I have the lower one backed off. Because of placement, I can only get 1/4 turn with a wrench but I must have turned it 80 times so I don't feel I'm getting anywhere. The hose is SOLID.... it doesn't have any play in it. So, I thought to unscrew the top as well, but I figure that'd back both hose ends off their fittings and just make more pressure on the hose...

Am I missing something simple? Shouldn't I be able to unscrew one side off of the fitting? Then, unscrew the broken fitting and repeat in reverse?

Looking at it you have swivel ends on both ends.Going to require two good open end wrenches. Be careful not to round things over. Chances are you will end up replacing the hose, bottom tee is already broken, it is going to be getting the other end loose with out breaking anything. On the top and if you can get at it. I would consider cutting the hose, warming things up and using a tubing wrench. I purchased a bolt buster induction heater just for what you have there, it will get it hot with out flame. In the past i have used a torch.

If the lower one is now loose, but you can't bend the hose enough to get it off the fitting, loosen the top end of the hose from its 90 also, then try turning the upper 90 counter-clockwise while you turn the lower 90 clockwise. That'll make the distance between the two 90's longer and might give you enough clearance to remove one end. Make sense?

Looking at it again, clean everything up really good first (hydraulics hate dirt), then take a better look at those 90s.

If it was mine, I would try to degrease the area as much as possible before removing. Start at the top of the short hose and fittings to degrease and see if there are any clues. Maybe the hose attaches at the bottom first and installs at the top second.

Agree with first reply. Almost always need two wrenches on hydraulics.

Note if both set of flats rotate when you wrench on the one. If so lots of advice above.

Couple of smacks with a hammer & backup hammer??

If worst comes to worst -- Hacksaw.

Pipe wrench on the hose may bend it??

I agree that you should remove the dirt prior to removing broken fitting. You tractor has be altered similar to this photo so as to return loader valve oil into the rockshaft return oil passageway. If your trying to remove female JIC fitting on hose then I agree I think hose down pressure is keeping JIC fitting pushed down on broken fitting.

You might want to buy a set of hydraulic wrenches.

They are thinner than an open end wrench.

Two open end wrenches and then position them so they sort of make a V and you can get your hands around both of them at the same time. I have found that when I do this, I have enough strength in both my hands, squeezing the wrenches together that I can always get them to loosen up.
