How to follow water pipe?

Yup, I'm a 100% unequivical non-believer. I've seen several shows on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel where people have tried to claim the million dollar prize by getting witchcraft to find buried pipes. It's funny to watch these grown men so serious trying something so silly. Obviously not one person has ever found a single pipe with two sticks, two wires or two long fingernails.

One of my best friends makes a huge living as an "underground plumber". He has millions of dollars of equipment and boring machines. He can do 48" bores under highways which doesn't leave the permanent dips and bumps made by digging the cut with a machine. He's invited plenty of people to find PVC pipes when no metalic tape was buried with them or wire run with them. In 30 years of business, not one person has found a single PVC pipe unless you can see an indention where it was buried, which doesn't hardly count.

He talked about getting some literature from some European company that sends an electrical current through the PVC pipe with a receiver that follows the current on the surface, but I don't think he ever bought such a device.

He could pay me a million and I will show him how it works!!

I've worked in engineering/R&D all my life and don't believe much of anything unless I see it. At our research center that was built in 1945 they were putting in new drain lines. Both the guy doing the backhoe work and the company maintenance supervisor were out there checking for buried pipe with the rods.

I came out and talked to George stating he was nuts. He handed me the straightened coat hangers and told me to give it a try. That was about 28 years ago and to this day I use the technique when needed. Can't explain it.

I've used to to find where the contractor for Verizon Fios broke through our sewer line.

I really am curious as to why none of you that can conjure up where water is, has made a video with creditable witness, showing the various techniques. I want to see the blisters in your hand from the twisting force caused by the stick or metal rods.

I actually did purchase some of those metal rods for trial purposes. They were already bent and shiny and had tassels on the ends. and I walked and walked until I was tired. Absolutely nothing. They even guaranteed they would work. I was so disappointed.

I am starting to lose faith as to what one can believe what one tells another, and firmly believe it with no reservation.

We sure do spend a lot of money on those high goodies that the military use to find things. Wouldn't it be great if one could just use a big stick, whatever flavor, to find those tanks, ships, and submarines. I flew in the Navy's best aircraft with all that high tech stuff, looking for some of those things, and they would not let use those Y shaped sticks. I am at a total loss as to why not.

How many of you believe in Chris Angel, he can do some amazing things, but guess what, there are logical answers for what he does.

...a simple Y-branch ....

Oddly enough, as much as I can make the copper wires work....last I tried, the branches wouldn't do it for me....this discussion has me thinking I may have to re-try it.

Really? That's funny!!!! If anyone in the area would like to stop by sometime I can demonstrate..... It works for some and others it don't, it works really well for me, although I don't hold the rods in my hands I put them in sleeves and hold the sleeves so they are free to move on their own. I did this at work with some of the maintenance guys, some could get it and others couldn't.....
