How to follow water pipe?

Dowsing has never, not once, passed a true scientific double-blind test. It fails every single time. The money that the James Randi Educational Foundation put up is still in the bank. Right now they have put up over 1.2 million dollars and if you can prove dowsing works, the money is YOURS. Take a few days off of work, go prove your skills, take the money and quit your job. Sweet!

I'm boring and I like facts like tests that can be repeated with the same results and, in this case, blind tests to prevent cheating. I, too, have seen shows and read plenty where 'dowsing' is nothing but an old wives tail that for some reason keeps fooling new people each generation despite over a million dollars on the line to prove otherwise. J.J. has forgotten more about hydraulics and many other mechanical things than I'll ever know and I believe he looks at it the same way; if it's even remotely true, someone would have grabbed the 1.2 million dollars and you'd buy the witch sticks at Lowes and Home Depot to find all your water lines and where to drill your wells. The fact is, not one single person has been able to perform this 'magic' under supervised and controlled tests. If this were Myth Busters, I'd have to say "Myth Busted!".

I'm with you guys - it sounds like total BS. All I know is that I looked for the drain pipe for days and using the rods I found it quickly.

Maybe just luck and / or coincidence, but I'd try it again, as all I have to lose is my pride.

I don't care what the Discover Channel or myth busters says, there's enough anecdotal evidence over hundreds of years. I would never argue with that kind of history.

I haven't had good luck with my limited attempts at locating pipes with one of those swivel antenna things, maybe I need 2 of them.
But I still would never doubt what works for others.

JB

Heh! I got one of them also and it doesn't work for me. But, the other methods do. Go figure!

xtn,

You have already given out to much info. He knows that there is a meter, so city water. If he sees the water pipe at the house, then he has a base line already. There is usually a logical way to run pipe from a meter to a corner of the house. Now if he uses Google map, he can look at the property, using satellite pictures. If he is smart, he will take an eyeball view of the property upon arrival.

If he fails, he can just pass it off as a bad day, illness or a paranormal failure . If he succeeds to accurately map the PVC pipe, then he can have boasting rights , and get his name in the papers, and a You Tube video, and all the other dowsers will add his name to the ones that can, and also sing praises to the wonderment of it all.

You let him off the hook by saying no payback for failure, all he has to do now is take a chance, laugh about it and shrug it off. I am assuming that you have other buried electrical lines maybe other PVC pipe, cable, septic runs, or sewer, etc. Does he get credit for locating other buried stuff?

I wish your place was not to far, I would love to watch the experiment in person.

Man you guys are harsh

What's the proverb ? Blessed are those that believe without seeing :)

You guys that have to have scientific proof for everything... there are some mysteries in life, would be pretty boring without them.

Would I put money on dousing? probably not. But I wouldn't go to far out on a limb denying it either.

JB.

on another note about finding a pipe.

instead of using air compressor and trying to hear the sound. you can get a "scent" nasty smelling strong stuff. used to test "air tight" barriers for say removing asbestos, and other work like cleaning a chimney. ya put a few puffs of this stuff in the air and go around the outside and see if you can smell it.

drop some scent stuff into the pipe. hook up air compressor and away you go.

someone already said 60psi. but i would still caution that amount. potatoes launchers are an example. of just a little bit of forced air can really make things fly very dangerously. i think myth busters had a pressurizing cabin dong and i want to say 5psi blew out a window or something. that sent sharp small metal pieces 50 feet plus away.

========================
as far as dowsing. *shrugs* might as well give it a shoot. what can it hurt to try? ((eerrr not referring to xtn notation))

I didn't read the whole thread, but it seems the pipe remains unfound.

How about this, for a WAG?

Get an air compressor, and a "needle scaler" and "drum"/vibrate (lightly, so as not to eat through the PVC, which it probably will, QUICKLY, if your not careful and push too hard) and then stick the thin wand of a mechanic's stethoscope into the ground, at further and further distances from the scaler, in an arc in both directions. The louder the return, the closer you are.

Caveat: I've never even SEEN a needle scaler yet, but I WANT one. I've used a mechanic's stethoscope many times, with GREAT success. If you need to go deeper, you can always tape on a steel welding rod (like 30" gas welding rod?) to the stethoscope, to go deeper. Or you might need stiffer rod, easily available at hardware stores/big box stores.

Lemme know?

Thanks,

My Hoe

Seems like the neighbor lady helped him find the pipe. She actually showed where it originated. But then again, she could have been a witch and used her paranormal powers. Some of those people even talk to ghost. You reckon you could just ask the PVC pipe to show itself.

If you believe in God, can you believe in witchery, or is one allowed to modify their principles to suit the occasion.

These converts puzzle me in the fact that it works one day, and is an intermittent thing. and with certain methods, such as the rods work for me but the forked stick does not. Another will say I only use a peach branch. This has to be a variable curse that descends on a person, and works one day, but not always.

Just how is it that PVC emanates anything so one can find it. It can't be magnetic, but it might give off some atomic resonance to act upon the aura, which is a subtle, luminous radiation surrounding a person or object about us. Has anyone tried this at night time? It just might glow in the dark, and we can all see it. Maybe I could train my dog to locate PVC pipe.

Why do we even need GPS, when we can dangle a pendulum on a map and ask it to find the nearest Target store.

Those that have the power, would you say that it is a gift? From who, and why. Why were you selected to receive this special power. Can you pass it on to your children.

So, any stick any metal rod, a pendulum made out of metal, diamonds, gold, emerald. just anything. Doesn't matter huh, then it must be something else like paranormal forces working to modify the electric field to provide you a signal, and if using a stick, it makes it twitch and jerk around. Bending a Y stick straight down and tearing the shin with such force, WOW, did that really happen? How does something magnetic do anything to a stick. How come a compass doesn't work to find all these objects.

Some people will believe anything, so you have to be careful about the beliefs that are worth believing.

When you say "I've got the power", does it really mean anything.

One has to question certain things in life, and this is certainly one of them.

Is this the same kind of power that resides in a Ouija board?

Look at all these people out of work, and states like GA needing more water. Why not put them to work with sticks and rods walking across the state.

xtn,

You have already given out to much info. He knows that there is a meter, so city water. If he sees the water pipe at the house, then he has a base line already. I wish your place was not to far, I would love to watch the experiment in person.

I doubt anyone will see the meter when entering my property, and I've made the requirement to start at the house and work out. Even if they do see the meter location it's no big deal. I am comfortable that knowing the meter location will not provide any significant advantage because the pipe runs for some distances in ways that are totally unexpected. There are no discernible clues evident in the land. Even educated guesses as to where the line approaches and enters the house are most likely going to be wrong. If somebody could mark it out using the methods described in this thread I would be seriously impressed.

The electric service and septic system lines are located such that they will not interfere with the incoming water service line, and there are obvious signs of their whereabouts, so they don't count. The phone line (not in use) does make a B-line for the house from the obvious riser out by the road and also doesn't count. I can walk around with a stick and tell you I've found dirt but it doesn't mean much. You've got to find what you're looking for after all or the whole thing is meaningless. Otherwise every time sticks cross or whatever how do you know what it has "found?" Maybe it found your water line? Maybe it found a dinosaur skeleton? Most of the successful stories in this thread detail an attempt to find something specific. So if you want the $1000 you've got to definitively find my water pipe and that's all. You cannot just mark a bunch of spots on the ground and claim you've found unidentified stuff.

I do not require a failed attempt to pay me because I want to see an attempt made. It seems as if even the devout believers acknowledge that it might not work all the time, and they might avoid the chance at having to loose $1000 even though they believe they have a strong chance to succeed. I want somebody to come try, so I make the cost of failure as low as I can. If you come and fail, your only loss is your travel expenses and time.

J_J I wish you were closer too. I would love to have a pool of witnesses both believer and non-believer. Plus I would enjoy the honor of serving some cold beverages to fellow TBN members.
