And thanks, all in:genny, cord, wheel kit, shed, solar charger, battery, interlock, wall plug and wired, about $1k.
For portable noise makers, HF generators are hard to beat on price. Reviews are excellent, only must do is the spark plugs are junk, change em.
It’ll run about 10 hours on a tank of fuel, powering the whole house. I’ve run it for 3 days at a time, straight through.

Maybe, but it is still $25 worth of parts that they are selling you. I just put an interlock on my breaker box and even that was $1 worth of parts for $50I'm thinking by the time you have a transfer switch bought and installed the price will be close to the same.

I was surprised by the price for the Sqaure D interlock....for a few pieces of tin and a couple of screws.

Thanks for the ideas. Power went out the other day for a few hours which brought up sump pump/water issues. Power usually doesn't go out often and took care of sump pump by running cord thru window from the generator. Brought to mind easier ways to do it and saw some simple solutions as opposed to cord thru window. Don't mind running extension cords in doors so the easy solutions of outlets thru the wall and PVC capped pipes gave me some good and easy solutions.

My interlock (Square D, was in the $100 range (Can$) with 6 or 12 circuits (depending on the breakers style U used.)
OK, it;s manual but works for me. Covers the essentials!.
And thru the wall? (concrete) some caulking to seal off cold air.
