How to get rid of a beaver

Nasty stinky clothes such as underwear, tshirts, etc will keep them away from their dams for a loooooooong time. I know it seems bizarre, but after using a backhoe to breakup dams and many other tactics the dirty clothes placed near the dam has worked the best.

My 5 acre pond is one of a chain and we have an occasional beaver that stops by. From what I have read there is a better than even chance you have more than the one you think you have. Beaver mate for life and stay as a family group for a long time. Or, you may have a 2 year old that is moving from the family and looking to set up its own territory.

The law varies greatly from area to area when it comes to Beaver. In some areas, not the south, they are protected and can flat ruin someone's property. In the south we are over populated and they have become a problem. In Georgia the wildlife management web site says there is no season on beaver and recommends that you trap or shoot them.

I think you will have a hard time convincing him that there is a better place to live. Around here there are many people who will do the trapping for the pelt.

I had a problem with beavers also. Fish and Wildlife would not touch them. Trapping was out of the question as it is against the law basically here. I took care of the problem as a last resort. Find a person that uses furs and let him take care of it if possible.

Here in Massachusetts if a beaver takes up residence on your property you must formally apologize to the beaver, sign your deed over to the beaver, and take up residence in a shelter and become a heroin addict.

Well that hardly seems fair, why does the beaver get the house AND the beaver den it made. Surely the homeowner should get whichever is vacant. Boy I tell you things are going south in a handbasket around here.

Be surprised what can happen when dealing with beavers in Mass.. We had unusual torrential rains about ten years back and this combined with a huge water backup caused by an active beaver dam decided to let go. When it did, it took the road and all with it.. The whole highway operating budget for the year (at that time frame) was spent on this one wash out.. Four, 20 X 6 X 6 concrete box culverts, which were concretes together as a 80 by 6 when done, the excavator, various rock, concrete pour for new headwalls, 30 X 30 asphalt, etc, etc all closing a main thoroughfare for a week.. A month or so goes by and heavy rains again, starting to work around the new headwalls which were still curing. I had enough, decided to get the backhoe and break apart the newly rebuilt/replaced beaver dam built 60 ft from the headwall..
I started breaking the dam when a fish and game warden stops. Starts threatening me and the town with heavy fines and all kinds of things.. The neighbor kid, who made the call on me, walked over to listen to all this laughing like mad.. Told the kid, go get your Dad, which he did.. Told his dad I'll never again do anything to help you or any of your childish causes.. And made sure the warden heard it all.. Thanks to all those ultra liberals that know better than anyone else.. Boston is crazy and not a clue what they are doing.. Anyway, no fines, nothing was filed and the remaining 6 or so years on the highway dpt, I never again went to help that complainer.. Today, with a lot of proof, paperwork and jumping hoops of fire, and a main road eminent of disaster by beaver, the fish and game will come, trap, and move to another location a problem beaver.. Be ready to wear out your hands signing all kinds of state mandated paperwork and be able to prove costs beyond the towns normal ability to repair.. then, Junkman says at the last luncheon meeting, he can't understand why I would leave the town hwy dpt and such a nice job.. Enough of this hoop jumping and dealing with ultra liberals is the answer.. And to think, ask 9 out of 10 in Boston, they've never seen a simple Robin fly never mind KNOW what a beaver can cause..

Well said about the Butt-Heads in Boston and their ability to make stupid laws. Rt 122 in Barre washed out due to beavers years ago also. What a mess that made of the road and a bridge downstream that I believe is still closed. They have no money to repair it. The people east of Rt128/95 are a bunch of complete fools. They come out to Quabbin resevoir for peace and tranquility. Not knowing that 5 towns are buried there so they can have a drink of water in Boston. Then they complain about the fishing on Quabbin and the use of small boats there that supposidely pollutes their drinking water and make too much noise. I say plug the aqueduct that feeds them and let them all die of dehydration. Then we could get Mass back to being a real state with real people to run it. It won't be long before the likes of Kerry, Riley and Kennedy are gone from this state.

Simple solution...... just make everything inside of 128 or 495, the State of Boston..... Cape Cod wanted to secede about 10 years ago because of the way that Boston treated them.
