Hi all, had grand plans to rehab this old G5200 diesel riding mower but realize it just isn't going to happen. My interest has waned and I'm wondering what you all think is the best way to get rid of it would be. Should I try to part it out or try to sell it as a parts machine on Craigslist?

One cylinder has no compression and lets fuel down into the oil, but it will still run. Finally stopped mowing with it when a pulley on the deck rusted out and won't hold the belt. Plenty of good parts. Frankly I'd let anyone come just pick it up (near Abilene, TX), but if there's a good market for pieces I might part it out and try to recoup some of the $$ I paid for it.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Erik, near Abilene, TX

P.S. Guess I could deliver it anywhere along I-20 between Abilene, TX and eastern (Meridian) Mississippi if anyone along I-20 was interested in it.

Not much to refurb without sinking a ton of money into it. If the deck is rusted out and need new deck, that is over $1000 by itself just for the deck, then you have to buy the spindles separately. I priced one for my JD 332 and it was $1200 without spindles or belts. Engine overhaul might cost 2-300 in parts alone. Sounds like it might be worth scrap price. Maybe if the transmission is good, someone might use that.

Transmission is good, and deck is in fair shape. Just the pulley on one of the spindles failed. If I could get around to replacing that (I don't have a wrench or socket big enough) then I would be back to mowing with it.

Yep, engine needs an overhaul, but it runs as is so that's how I've been using it.

Would it be worth trying to clean up and repair the deck and sell that? Is there a market for old decks?

Not sure if you've still got the JD or are interested in refurbing it, Gary but here's a complete deck for about the price you mention for bare deck: John Deere 48-inch Complete Replacement Deck BM17879
I'm looking into a complete deck for a GT 235 I just picked up as I don't really care for the 44" Pirahna that's on it now and found that site.
