I always thought that was about the dumbest idea ever written and I don't care where it was written, it is dumb.

As someone who crawled around in caves every weekend in the late 90's, it's nice to see bat education getting out there. Before I got into caving I was a little creeped out by bats but now find them fascinating. I was once doing volunteer cave work at Carlsbad Caverns and helping a bird researcher in the entrance. While park visitors sat up above us in the amphitheater listening to the ranger presentation, we were down in the entrance out of sight awaiting the evening flight. It was a bizarre experience watching thousands of bats fly past me sometimes just a foot or two away.

White Nose Syndrome has been killing bats and is slowly spreading westward. The OP may not realize that it might be illegal to kill bats in his state.
