Thanks, folks. I've now gotten stuck a couple more times, and both times got myself out by using the hoe, mostly to lift the rear and move sideways, which nicely got the rear tire out of the rut I'd cleverly dug.
mwb, I actually have a set of chains, got it along with the tractor, but have no idea how to mount them. Guess I should try to figure it out. I hadn't really thought about using them as I thought they'd damage the driveway. Also, would chains really keep me from getting stuck in these huge snow piles? I've never used them on any vehicle, so I don't really know what they can do.

Ford tractor, that's pretty much exactly what I was doing today, but I couldn't seem to get a good enough bite with the teeth to move the tractor much. Sideways motion worked better for the spot I was in, nice and slow.
