How to get unstuck from snowbank?

Folks -

Anyhow - if there was an easier way to use the tractor to get itself out, my back would love to know for next time. :D

Thanks -

Ken

Put chains on it!

Thanks, folks. I've now gotten stuck a couple more times, and both times got myself out by using the hoe, mostly to lift the rear and move sideways, which nicely got the rear tire out of the rut I'd cleverly dug.

mwb, I actually have a set of chains, got it along with the tractor, but have no idea how to mount them. Guess I should try to figure it out. I hadn't really thought about using them as I thought they'd damage the driveway. Also, would chains really keep me from getting stuck in these huge snow piles? I've never used them on any vehicle, so I don't really know what they can do.

racerboy832, thanks for the offer. I'm in Granby, though, right near the mass border.

Ford tractor, that's pretty much exactly what I was doing today, but I couldn't seem to get a good enough bite with the teeth to move the tractor much. Sideways motion worked better for the spot I was in, nice and slow.

Chains work well on frozen ground. If you are digging down to ice and then getting stuck they will help. If you're digging down to unfrozen lawn they will keep on digging and you'll be reminded in the spring of all the places you got stuck. Chains can be hard on blacktop. If you spin your tires they damage it.
