how to mount a tactical shotgun

Bad year for onery / hungry bears. One fatality and several maulings so far because the salmon were late this year. We usually carry a big can of Bear Spray(when we remember). We see wolves, coyote, fox, lynx and the occasional
bear or wolverine but with no farm animals or pets to eat, they just pass right on thru.

Looked anti to me.

I don't carry on the tractor but wish I had a few times.
Woodchucks close with the .22 & at the far end of the pasture with the .223.
Fox & coyote too.

Looked that way to me as well...with the "what in THE H E L L...." as if things need to be in caps for a pleasant conversation just looking for understanding. Or the "heavy armament?" which a .22 and 5.56 are both anything but heavy...and then the cheeky "you going out to start a war??" finished off with the condescending "You can not tell me...". :confused3:

Though I think for one time I will try throwing a shovel at a coyote coming after the rabbits. I'll study some javelin videos to see how much of a run I need. Or maybe if I just use my head to ram them! Now that would be cool. I'll have to make sure my wife has the camera ready.

I keep a small 357 revolver in a holster in my JD fender toolbox on my 3320. Its a ss Taurus model.....and it seems to shoot pretty well. I've used it mostly for dispatching the porcupines that kill my trees. I do have some bears, coyotes and at times other critters to be concerned about (neighbors have some bad azz dogs - tho they seem to stay home these days).....and it feels good to have the pistol available if I break down and have to walk back to my shed, etc.

If/when I buy a cab tractor I may mount a .410 shotgun on a sky rack on the roof of the cab.

Liberal antigun statement(s) disguised as a question(s).

None of which deserve an answer.

I didn’t take oosik’s post that way... I kind of chuckled when I saw his question. I’m not defending him just because he is a fellow Washingtonian, but note he is on the right side of the state. I thought it was intended as a light hearted poke. I think his subsequent replies showed his class too.

Ah - Dragoneggs - there are always going to be those who misinterpret a comment. I'm just glad to see that 'ol FTG-05 comes down on the side of the pro-gun crowd.

It might be a situation that could be argued but - when I gave my list of firearms to my insurance man - - his first comment - "are you planning a war in some third world country".

And on a completely different topic - yesterday morning - woke to stinky smoke and haze. Our wildfire season has started over here on the "dry"side. I never say "right" side - because occasionally I've been known to be wrong.

Have a good weekend.

I think I might just get the Taurus Judge. .410/.32 long colt. That would tear up anything that may threaten while on the tractor. No room for a long gun in the tractor cab.

try shooting to the right side of the tractor sitting with something that requires your left hand to be in front of your right hand, such as a long gun. It will limit the area you can aim at. Something you can shoot one handed would work a lot better

Why would you have to put your left hand in front of your right- just switch hand positions- I do it all the time, but then again, I'm left-handed, so I often have no choice.

So, any actual mounting advice? I've the same question bit not for snakes. Back in the woods where I often am we see black bear, coyotes and am sure at some point I'll see a rabid Bigfoot. Would be nice to throw the rifle on a rack.

I have a shotgun scabbard, with a machete sheath built in, and I anticipate mounting it on the inside of my right loader mount, since I can't easily get on and off there anyway.

I know man...I think the only items I've used to kill snakes consist of a stick, a pointy stick, frog gig, rebar, knife, tractor tire, hoe, shovel, and a rock. I've not ever felt the need to blow a hole in the ground just to kill one. :D Now if it was up to my wife she would ask me to use a 120mm mortar which pretty much falls inline with her demand that I use a pulse rifle to kill spiders. I actually got in big trouble with her when I used the knife to kill one. She thought I was going to die and it was going to kill the whole family after me.

...and how about we just kill the venomous snakes that get to living in too close for comfort, and not every harmless variety encountered, as my S-I-L insists that my B-I-L do- they do keep the nuisance rodent populations down.

Not speaking to you directly MercDV, just saying it here different 'cause you listed a lot of different tacticool weapons...
