How to remove fallen tree from pond

After seeing the pics I would leave it. Maybe cut off what's on the bank, but what's left in the water will be excellent for fish to breed in. Plus it will give you a great fishing hole over the years.

I'm with the leave it there crowd after seeing the pics. It is great habitat.

I had a beaver fell about 4 cottonwoods around my pond before I shot it. I left them there and never thought twice about it.

+1 on the come along plan. You ought to be able to hook to it, pull a section in and cut it off. Each time it will get easier. Nice place btw!

In the end, it will be your choice regarding what method you utilize. After seeing the pictures, if it were me, I would leave it and perhaps cut what is remaining on the bank. BTW, nice place. Best wishes.

Do you ever see wood ducks on your pond? They love to climb up into fallen trees like yours.

Leaving it will be an option if removal methods fail. No way I'm going to risk drowning to get it out.

Yes, we had around 30 of them this spring. Beautiful little rascals.

We had a similar problem getting a 80 foot tall poplar tree out of our lake. I had a 150 foot piece of Blue Water II static rope left over from the days when I belonged to a mountain rescue group. Real expensive about $1.20 a foot but really strong. It is 11 mm and has double twisted cabled sheath strands as well as double twist cabled core strands and about a 7300 lb tensile rating. Tied one end to a chain wrapped around the log and the other to my jeep. Pulled it to the shore ok and then about three feet thru the muck and then it stopped dead. I could not pull it any further. My dad suggested a rig to lift it up as it was pulled.. I think he called it a jib pole but am not sure about the name. It was two 10 foot 6X6s lashed together at the top with the base ends about 6 foot apart. Sorta like an inverted Vee. The rope went over the top and the Vee was tilted toward the log and then pulled by the jeep. It caused the end of the log to lift up and move a couple feet in. The Vee was re-positioned and the process repeated several times until enough was on shore to cut off. This process was repeated until we were done. Took my brother and I the entire day to get it in from the lake.

Okay thanks, I keep that method in mind if it gets struck in the muck.

The TEKTON come-a-long was delivered today. Here are some pics. Made in China but it seems to be well built (famous last words). It's going to be put to the test vs. that tree! Bought it because it was an Amazon special deal for $39, half the normal price. I'm going to be leery of it and try to avoid using excessive stain. Sure don't want the cable to break with 8,000 lbs. of pressure on it! Been raining all day and more predicted for tomorrow. Could be a few days before the location is dry enough. :umbrella-guy:

The come along has a 5' or 6' cable so its a bit of a PITA to use. The tree should move easy until it gets to shore.

If you can you get a small boat/canoe from a friend and tie the rope to the top, you can tow from another angle to get the top to shore. Now the entire tree is along side the bank. Easier to work on to cut up or leave for wildlife habitat whatever.

Probably would be exceedingly difficult to pull it sideways through the muck and cattails. Thinking about putting a round post(s) under it on the shore and move it like the Egyptians moved pyramid stones. Grease the skids so to speak.

I'm with Riptides, doesn't seem to take up much space in the pond, good cover for fish as already posted. Dito on your place to, looks relaxing.
