Hello Everyone - This is my first post and Id like to thank all of you guys for the great info Ive gotten from lurking around here and thanks Jascott for the great photos.
I have a question. Im getting ready to tear off the hydraulic lift cover from my 1969? Ford 3000 Desiel and I was wondering if I had to remove that little 3X5 control cover mounted on the hydraulic lift cover first or can I just leave it on the hydraulic lift cover when I take it off? Thanks for your help.

technically just have to remove peremiter bolts, and of course, 3pt linkage. opn my 660 a couple bolts on the 3x5 cover came out.. am trying to picture my 3000.. but thinking probably the same. not a bad idea to pull it anyway to replace orings. you get all of them in the kit with the gasket.. etc..

yep.. that's how my 66 was.. probably most fords with that 3x5 cover are.

good to pull it anyway to repalce orings.. especially if pulling 2 bolts anyway.. old hard ones probably crack when that happens..

jascott,

I'm getting ready to make this same repair on my 65 Ford 3000. It won't lift the arms at all when it is cold. One question about your pictures though, I see the metal filter on the right side near the sump wall. I'm assuming this is the suction/intake filter. Where is the return filter? I called my local New Holland dealer and they told me there was only 1 filter on these and it was a screw on filter. I'm guessing they were referring to the suction/intake filter.

Also, did you find a kit that had all the orings and gasket or did you have to buy them seperately.

Never mind. I didn't look at the picture close enough. In the last picture, I see one filter on the left and the other on the right side of the picture.

Ok I successfully removed the lift cover and replaced the return filter. I cleaned the intake filter out good with diesel fuel and my air compressor. It had lots of gunk in it. I had a little trouble getting the intake tube and filter installed again. It's a pretty tight fit even with the PTO shaft and lever removed. Replaced the main gasket and all o rings I saw. After putting the cover back on the 3pt hitch still will not move. What else should I check?

I should mention that I made a mistake and started the tractor and tested the 3pt hitch before refilling the fluid. After I realized this I refilled the fluid and tried again with no luck.

Do I need to prime the pump? If so, how do I do this?

Prior to this, the 3pt hitch would not lift anything when it got real cold. I figured there was condensation in the intake filter do cleaning it would solve the problem. For example, the first snow this year in December it lifted my blade just fine. After that snow it has not worked again.

Your suggestions are very much appreciated. We are digging out of over 1' of snow here in Missouri.

prime the pump... or burp it anyway. look for a plug on the top/head of the pump.

ps.. did you make sur ehte unloading valve moved freely?
