How to remove PTO shaft from slip clutch on rotary cutter?

Not long enough at current stuck length to connect to tractor PTO. Guess I could connect it to a clevis on the drawbar

Just what I had in mind.
Chain the cutter to a tree & chain the tractor end of the shaft to the tractor tow bar or the back of your pick up.

Once you have the shaft seperated, you can clean it up & it will last for the rest of YOUR life.

Got the end that connects to the slip clutch pushed forward. That lip that prevents it from being removed does not want to budge and looks like its a part of the clutch not a ring that can be popped off

....then why is there a grease fitting?

Edit#1: Ahh.....so when the sheer bolt break it spins.

Edit#2: Did you get the clip off that can be seen in other photos? That clip must have a purpose.

Have you tried massive amounts of penetrating oil, apply tension, and Tap Tap Tap?

Inspect the ring, all the way around it, looking for a seam. It looks like a snap ring to me.

Soaked it down with WD 40. Used a large flat head screwdriver and a sledge to tap it. Should it be moving towards the slip clutch or away from it?

Just got some penetrating oil from tractor supply so going to hit it with that

When I bought my PHD the shaft was seized. Sprayed it with PB Blaster and tapped (or beat, whatever you want to call it) with a sledge hammer every day for about two weeks. It finally came apart. I keep it inside now so that I don't have that issue.

Soldier, the ring won't slide. It's snapped into a groove that's cut into the shaft, so you need to snap it out of the groove. First find the seam or gap in that ring. You'll need to pry one end out of the groove and work it around and out. Some snap rings have a hole in each end of the ring and are meant to be spread and removed with snap ring pliers. There's a snap ring in your picture, to the left of the one you're working on, inside the yoke. That ring is in the yoke (internal) rather than snapped on the shaft (external).

Design factors dictate the "ring" is to retain the "U" joint yoke.... Ring has to be removable by design... You are just not seeing way to release ring....

Find the split in the ring: It has to have one. Then work it with a small chisel and shop hammer to pound it out of the groove. Work both ends till it frees up. A lot of penetrating fluid as you work the split ring from both ends. It is likely rusted in place but it will come out with some pounding on the chisel. You may need to apply some heat to it if the chisel isn't doing the job.
