how to secure a tractor on a trailer

James150, how do the over the tire straps work on the big rear tires of tractors? Do they wrap far enough around to hold the tractor from slipping out from under them in a crash? I prefer that style for cars and buggies, but haven't used them for tractors.
I thought they might be too short to go around the big tires but the strap is long enough to go all the way around the big back tire and I pull it down far enough that I think even if the tires went flat the straps would still hold. I really like the straps for the convenience factor and I think the chain on the loader gives me some extra insurance. I don't usually trailer it all over all the time, usually back and forth three or four times a year.

I put clevis on all four corners to make it easier to hook to.. I trailer mine everytime I use it..

Andy, I really like your idea, and I'm pretty sure I can find some secure points on my tractor to do the same. One question: how do you attach the chain to the clevis? Do you set the hook on the clevis itself, or do you... I don't know... pass the hook through the clevis and hook it back to the chain? If I have a grab hook, can I just put it through the clevis and call it done?

When chaining to all 4 corners of a tractor, what length chain do you use? It seems like 20' is too long and will leave you with a lot of left over chain to deal with. Of course, too short is worse. What length do you use?

I have a 20' chain that I cut in half and could use with a pair of binders. You could also hook one end to each side of the trailer, then hook a binder near the middle of the chain and onto each side of the tractor (with some slack between the binders). That way you retain the full length of chain, but have the protection of using multiple chains.

I bought 2 20' 5/16" gold chains at Lowes and had them cut it into 2 10' lengths each and then bought hooks for the cut ends. It works great.
