Our local supermarket, Winco, offers three ways to buy peanut butter. There's the homogenized stuff- the cheapest being the store brand. There's the Adam's Natural brand, and then the most expensive, which is freshly ground. You have to buy their containers for the freshly ground.
Did a blind taste test, and realized the homogenized stuff, is not even in the same class, as the Adam's or the Fresh Ground. I picked Adam's as being the most flavorful. My wife picked the fresh ground.

So, Adam's Natural brand and the fresh ground are both the same with 100% peanuts and a little salt? One is ground and packed in advance and the other is fresh ground?

Looks like it works, but...

In my nearly 3/4 century, I've never heard of stirring peanut butter.

I do remember white "butter" in plastic bags, and you had to break a packet of yellow dye that was inside, and then knead the bag to make the butter yellow. Some kind of stirrer would have been good.

But I never heard of doing anything to peanut butter, or of a need to. Is Ohio peanut better different than that in the far western states?

That wasn't butter you were stirring the yellow stuff into lol.

I would have starved to death my first year in Viet Nam if it was not for peanut butter.

Adam's Natural adds a bit of salt. Otherwise it is the same as ground. I like a little salt. Wife doesn't. In the homogenized Winco store brand, the second ingredient is sugar, then cotton seed oil, and then salt. The ground stuff doesn't add anything. Its just peanuts.
I think the roasting part to the peanuts is what makes the difference. If done correctly, there is no need to add sugar or Cotton Seed Oil.

It used to be that cottonseed oil was terrible health-wise. That may have changed but I recall it as something to avoid.

For anyone who eats peanut butter, just try the real McCoy with only peanuts and a little salt. You'll flip over it. Then, try mixing that peanut butter as instructed in post #1 and you will never have peanut butter any other way.

And 100% peanut butter--not the added ingredients version-- is good for you. Here's a WebMD article.

Below is a pull quote from the article.
One study showed that eating peanuts every day can decrease the overall risk of death by up to 21% – and reduces the occurrence of heart disease by 38%.

As the third of four kids in our family, we had peanut butter all the time. For sure it wasn't the expensive stuff. We used to mix pancake syrup with it and called it Gooshy-Goshy. I think it was my younger sister that came up with that name. Funny how the name stuck--We still call it by that name today. :D I'm a Jiff-lover today and still mix syrup with it. And still dip my half-cut sandwiches in milk. :ROFLMAO:

To me peanut butter is peanut butter. No idea where I'd get fresh ground but I'd imagine it goes stale rather quickly. I don't use enough to use it all before that point...mostly just to make a quick PBJ when I'm hungry and can't be bothered to make a real meal.

I pretty much only eat peanut butter on celery, and maybe once or twice a year on buttered toast
