How well do shelter logic hold up in heavy snow areas?

We do not have the snow load you do; I have had two of the 12 by 24 up for almost 6 years. Tarp dried out on the one and we spent the money to replace it, just last year, never ripped. The snow load on the top was not the issue, ours slides right off; it was the snow piling up on the sides tightening the tarp and along with the trap shrinking in the cold weather. There is a trick to putting them up!
We lag screwed the bottom of the steal cross supports to a two by six, then used another in the door opening to hold the door width. Then we back filled the inside and outside with gravel to hold it down. Make sure you leave enough room on the sides to clear the snow. By the nature of their design they heat up and cool down so moisture in side is a problem, we put the plastic louver kit in the end walls with a fan that runs all the time, this helps that. Make sure you oil whatever you put in there rusting is an issue.
We would do it this way again in a heartbeat! You don稚 just turn around and have the money to build a pole building and it is not like you can put one up in a week end. Also, they can稚 tax the shelter logic building.
We are replacing them with a pole building and it is not because we are not happy with the above, it is because moving and storing equipment around inside a long narrow building is not easy. We looked at going wider but then the snow load would be an issue.

Steve

PS ours were the shelter logic from menards

This was the type shelter I had that collapsed under the snow load. On this 10x20 there are only 4 supports (or rafters) spaced quite a ways apart. The pipe thickness is too thin and too far apart to support weight from the top. Not sure if a round top model would have been any better and I wasn't going to find out.

That is exactly the same size as the one that I had that failed. Fortunately it wasn't too expensive and was a lesson learned. If you live in a high snowfall area they are not necessarily that good.

I have one of these shelter logic buildings. It is the alpine model. It has been through two winters and sheds the snow very well. I try to keep the snow down on the sides. It has a vent kit on the back. It is on the gravel drive. I put a heavy tarp down and some old 5/8 sheets of plywood I had on top of that. The floor collects dirt, oil, etc. - but it stays good as a working surface. Dry. My only problem has been the door zipper. It got iced up and I pulled too hard and it gave. The steel is fine, stays put. I anchored it with rods into the ground.
Northerntool sells it for 499. ShelterLogic Instant Garage for SUV/Truck — 20ft.L x 13ft.W x 12ft.H, Model# 62693 | Alpine Style Instant Garages| Northern Tool + Equipment

When I need to replace it, I'll buy another. Cheaper and less effort than building out of wood. Lowes, Homedepot, etc sell these online.

Sorry about your shelterlogic failure CurveCrazy. Makes me glad to own a Shelter Tech (Canadian) model 35x14x10, Bungee doors. With my modification adding diagonal interior braces at the four corners to eliminate wind sway metal fatigue. Four heavy winters, two hurricanes, still standing. Has withheld a 700 ton snow load through two winters. Cost three grand. Did it right. NO Complaints except from the taxman....Jix

The owner's instructions for my Shelter Logic building clearly said I would have to clear the snow off. This statement may protect them against warrantee claims from collapse, but it doesn't help folks who sometimes like to sleep while a snowstorm is in progress. Mine went down in its first winter, leaving me with a ripped tarp and lots of pipes (some bent)...maybe I could make a pipe organ or annoying wind chimes or something.

Looking at yours, BM,,here's what i did with mine.....
2 inches of gravel on the floor inside, then a 2x4 layed horizontally, "flush" with the stone,
then on top of those I screwed in 2x4's vertically ( 14 footers )and now have a wood floor, you can paint them if you like, great to do work on.
