Maybe Hugh was the last name as advertised ?
Perhaps.....and the author didn't know enough to add an apostrohe and an "s"'?
Maybe it's Hugh Hefner's house....and he decided to move into a mobile home.
No doubt...... that's a less egregious, grammatical infraction.
I suppose I could forgive Hef...

"They are learning things that I wasn't introduced to until High School. But they can't spell any words outside the normal used ones.

I think Richard touched on one major flaw in our schools. The schools are proud of "teaching ahead" but are ignoring the basics.

I saw an interview the other day with a graduating high school senior. He will be graduating high school with over 20 college credit hours. I would like to sit down with him and test him on things like basic math (long division, multiplication, square root, geometry, etc) basic chemistry and physics, history, economics and government. I see too many people on shows like Watter's World who would fail miserably at the most simple test on those subjects. Yet, they can tell you all about the latest Bieber escapade, and can brag about their high score on some video game.

When it comes to the standard of 'modern day' spelling we have only to look at TBN as an example. I'm referring to the auto-correct/dictionary function... we type merrily away and then go to all of the red-underlined words, correcting as we go OR adding them to our personal dictionary.

I've had to adapt the TBN dictionary for all of the 'American English' spellings & idiosyncrasies, plus add in all of my 'Aussie-isms'. I also have an Oxford dictionary and thesaurus sitting here on my desk, ready to go.

Here's another example of the standards coming out of modern education; I required a 14yo to fill out a form and then sign it... the filling out went fine but she looked quizzical when it came to signing her name. The result was written in block letters.

I'm soon expecting them to simply make an "X", with my following it with "his/her mark."

Good ole public education at $12,000 per student.

mark

PER YEAR!

The funny thing is that my wife and I spent about $12000 total educating our five sons at home. They now have five college degrees (in engineering and science) between them and the other one of them is a welder (he has a certificate).

And yes, I'm still proud of the four with college degrees, too.

I'm pretty sure in college I learned that the second "H" in Hugh is silent. Looks OK to me...
