Kubota L3540
I recently purchased a 3540 and am already close to the halfway to it's first service. The manual says replace oil and oil filter at 50 hours. It also says replace the HST filter at the same time. Does anyone know if you change the transmission oil at the same time? It doesn't give a time frame in the service interval for tranny fluid change. By the way this tractor is awesome but probably gonna have to get an hd bucket.

Thanks all

Look at your service intervals in your maintenance schedule.

You will get two for certain answers:

1. Go by the Operator Manual.
2. The first service is the most important, so change fluid, it is "cheap insurance".

There may be slight variations, but those are the two most often seen and oil/lubricant threads can get a bit testy.

Understood. Just wanted to clarify my manual due to it telling me to change oil and filter and just to change tranny fluid filter.

Yeah, it gets confusing as the manual on my L5030 showed a different schedule than on my L5740 which shows the same as yours.

By the way, I have the HD bucket and really like it.

From other threads on this topic, I can tell you that some manufacturers and models do not require change of transmission oil at the 50-hour service, and others do. If you go with whatever your manufacturer recommends, you should be okay. If you are nervous, it won't hurt to change the transmission fluid, except your wallet.

That is pretty much the way I see it.. On my Kubota L3400HST, it said to just change the filters at 50 hours and not the transmission fluid until 400 hours.. However my new Kioti said to change the filters AND the oil at 50 hours. So I did what the manuals said to do in each case. On the Kioti, the oil was no way near as clear coming out at 50 hours as what I put back in. ( one of 3 fluids approved in the manual). I was kinda glad I changed it out. Do what your heart tells ya. Or your pocketbook:)

Read that manual agian, page 78 in mine, very detailed description.

Engine oil and engine oil filter, initial at 50hours, then every 200 hours after that.

HST FILTER and hydraulic FILTER (FILTERS only) at 50 hours, then every 400 hours after that.

Transmission FLUID (also same as HST, hydraulic, and rear end) every 400 hours. Also, front axle at 400 hours too. Per Kubota, there is no 50 hour service for transmission fluid.

Personally, I did all fluids and all filters at 50 hours.

Check you front axle fluid level, historically, they are delivered a little low.

I changed my engine oil and filter at 50 hours and both the hydraulic and HST filters. I only topped of the hydraulic oil to replace what had leaked out.

I can tell you this, when you remove the filter on the FEL control side oil will flow out fast. The filter has a magnetic ring to catch metal filings. The ring may stick to the filter or it could stick to the transmission. If it sticks to the transmission you will need to remove it before installing the new filter. There are threads telling how to use either a vacuum or rubber cork to slow the oil down.

Follow the manual. It will go through the process pretty well.

BTW the oil that came out of my transmission looked just like new (not that you can tell much by visually looking at the oil).

This makes good fluid to top off or replace the old watery stuff in dump trucks/trailers or any older tractor that has really cruddy fluid when you buy it. Backhoes often are in a mess fluid wise that have some age on them and do not get used much.

IMO, this is because there are air bubbles that work their way out. Mine was delivered a little low, then topped off, then was a little low again, then topped off, then a little low again, then topped off... and has been fine ever since.
