Well, I would not have thought it would have busted the hydro motor like that, but all things considered you got off pretty easy considering what could have happened. You learned a valuable lesson, and guts enough to share it here so others could learn from it a lesser cost. Nice write up and Good on you..

Ditto what James said.
Excellent job making the repairs and posting.

Great work and thanks for sharing it with us - learned a few things!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Good on the "clean assembly". I found another one recently besides paper towels - standard red shop rags. Had my B-I-L's Stihl chainsaw in for running intermittently. Would run great for a few minutes then quit. I found the tiniest shred of red shop rag inside the fuel metering side of the carb. It was almost too small to see without magnification.

You're right about red shop rags. In one of the body shops that I used to work at, we used red shop rags that were supplied by the same laundry service that cleaned our uniforms. Sometimes we would get rags that had small metal shavings or filings in them, obviously from machine shop use. Some even still had residual oil in them. This is not good in a body shop, especially in the paint prep area. We finally switched to those blue scott towels.

Kudos to Tim for taking on this project! I also like how JD will sell the HST motor
and write decent repair manuals.

I would have chimed in sooner, but I am a week without internet or landline, due to a mudslide
in the Santa Cruz Mtns. I write this at a library in town. At least our power was out only
3 days.
