It's usually not fast, it's a very heavy pull and to have 3 ton you must have torque in to the winch.

A three ton pull is not a common occurrence in Vermont.

May be if you hitch up behind a stump, but then the tractor moves, not the log. ;-)

On nice flat ground fast idle is perfect, but because they are quite fast and the reduction is small you shouldn't be afraid to speed up if you need full pulling power, I just adjust the speed with the clutch in those few times that I need to pull very hard. It's no problem to stall the tractor if things stops, but always watch the tractor when winching, not the log.

I recently bought a Farmi winch for my BX24 and love it. My forest is "young" so I am not pulling large stuff. But I also bought a self releasing snatch block and it has been indispensable for my application. My forest is hilly and dense so I have a hard time getting a straight pull. The snatch block takes care of it. Enjoy your winch.
