Hud-son sale on Uniforest Logging Winches

The winches have a slip clutch which is adjustable. If properly adjusted, it's unlikely your tractor will damage the 35M due to overpowering the PTO. However, you are right smack in the middle of the suggested range for the 45M. You didn't mention you're tractor model (I'm assuming your aren't talking about the M62 that is "to be delivered" in your profile, since it's not 47HP), but if the 3PH lift specs match those of a typical 47 PTO HP tractor, the 45M (or a Farmi 501 or similar) would be a good match for your tractor.

As mentioned earlier, I own the 35E, previous model to the 35M. It's a solid winch, and gets the job done for me. However, if I had the tractor like yours, I'd be getting the winch to match it. My winch is a good match for my tractor. Had I bought smaller, every time I get a log that I just can't quite move, I'd be kicking myself for not buying an implement that matched my tractor.
The M62 is 47 HP to the PTO. In the hud-son specs are they talking engine HP or PTO HP?

That asked, still great advice. I can splurge for the 45M. Thanks!

I have a 35M which I bought last year; but looking at the brochure they have made some improvements. The tray for holding chokers is new and should be useful; on at least one occasion last winter I got a choker tied up in my tire chain ... not a fun scenario when going down the road in high range. The foldable screen; I had to take mine off, as my 3PTH arms are short so the winch sets too close to the tractor. I also broke out both taillights for the same reason, when I dropped a tire into a hole causing the winch to rise too far. :(

Not sure, but it doesn't really matter. You don't really need that much HP to run the winch. Most winch specs are just using HP as a proxy for the size/weight of the tractor.

You can bet, that they are talking about pto hp...

It's a pto powered tool, it doesn't matter at all what the engine hp is...

Now there would be an interesting pole:

Who runs full rated engine RPM while pulling logs with a tractor mounted winch?

A tractor is NOT a skidder! ;-)

The thing that's confusing is, they spec. what hp it will handle but it doesn't take a lot of hp for it to have full pulling power... SO, sometimes they end giving you both hp ratings without telling you what is what.

I think MY winch is rated for 45 to 90hp ?, (I'd have to look it up again) but 20 hp will give it max pulling power. That's why you can use them at a fast idle and still get plenty of pulling power.

If it's a heavy pull and you have a small tractor you need the torque to make it work. I have a MF135 with 47hp and often must have near PTO speed to not stall it in some cases. I have a 3 ton Fransgård winch.

Does pto power increase with a stationary implement? I’d think so since there’s no power used to move the tractor around.

Yes, you have the full engine power to the PTO - losses in transmission and hydraulic.
