Does anyone know anything about hudson trailers? I'm thinking about buying a 16' to haul my tractor. This one is used and looks decent but the owner doesn't know much about it. Capacity is 9950 lbs and has electric brakes but he doesn't know if the brakes are on one axle or two...guessing one. I'm thinking if I can get it for about $1200 it would be a good deal.

Hudson makes a solid trailer. I would have bought one except for the fact the local dealer just wanted too much for it. I think (new) they may be a little over priced. At least up here.

If the one you are looking at is in good shape, it sounds like it could be a good deal.

I concur. Aside from the Gator Made trailer I currently have which I like better, the Hudson Trailer is great. They are made in Indian Trail, NC and the family that makes them are nice and very reputable. Unless it has been abused, I doubt a used Hudson would perform less good than a new one. They are solid commercial level trailers.

I own a Hudson and love it. VERY solid built. One thing I liked was the wheel wells. They are made of diamond plate that you can walk on. They also have steps on both sides. Most are a rolled steel that you cannot step on, and they don't have steps on them.
Another thing I like was the price. You have to really compare properly. (which I didn't do at first, and I thought they were more expensive.)
Hudson will give you the rating which the trailer will CARRY, not gvrw. Most trailer places gave gvrw which you must subtract the weight of the trailer. Which in my case was 2000lbs.
I thought I was comparing apples to apples.
7000lb gvrw (5,000lb carry weight)for $1,500.
The Hudson was $1,800 for a 7,000 lb carry weight. (9000lb gvrw)
They both spoke of it as a 7,000 lb weight limit though.
For $300 more, I can carry another ton and get a tougher built trailer.
At first glance, I thought they were both 7k gvrw trailers. I almost messed up there.

Rico304,

I should have looked down your way! The dealer up here quoted me $3,400.00 for an 18’ 10k trailer and would not budge on the price. Needless to say, he did not get a sale!

OOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Gary, I meant 2500, and 2800 for the Hudson! hahaha SORRY!!
I got the 18' 9k gvrw trailer. I got $100 off for their Father's Day sale, and I talked them down $100 more.
I'm sure we dealt with the same company. Located in Bangor, Auburn and South Portland....
Sorry for the mess up. I think I was nervous my wife might be looking over my shoulder, so I wrote what I told her it cost. hahahahaha

$1200 sounds like a good deal for that trailer if it is in decent shape & structurally sound. For $1200 you'd have a tough time finding a good cheaply built equipment trailer. Hudsons are tough trailers--definately commercial grade. I grew up about 9 miles from where they're made in Indian Trail, NC, and most all of the local contractors use Hudson trailers (even behind 10 wheel dumps to haul small dozers and trackhoes).

Dad has 2 of their trailers. 1 14' 4T that he bought new in 1990, and an 18' 5T that he bought 1 yr old in 2000 from a landscaper that bit off more than he could chew and was quitting the landscape construction business and selling off the associated equipment. For reference, in 2000 he paid $1350 for the 18' 5T with a gate, dovetail, and fenders. Neither trailer has given problems, and both have been overloaded on several occassions.

As was mentioned before, they are a family owned company and they do take great pride in building a quality product. Also, their product support is great, but that's just our experience.
