If you are a skeptic, Do a test, go set a gallon of gas on fire... now multiply that by what we use worldwide every single day... If you don't think man can screw up the world... your dead wrong. It's getting hotter in our little fish bowl. :2cents:

Storms like Harvey and Irma are the new normal. We haven't seen anything yet. Soon will need a new Category 6 to describe them.

It's very disappointing how some people want to blame nature on their political belief and blame global warming for it. Lets ignore 12 years of not having any hurricanes hit the US, and lets ignore that NOAA and NASA have become political instead of sticking to what they where intended to in order to push an agenda. How many times have NOAA and NASA been caught lying about the temperatures and had to "revise" them, or retract misleading pictures of the amount of ice at the poles? 2016 was the hottest year on record just long enough for hundreds of millions of dollars to be given to support those agencies so called research, and then after they get their money, we learn that they made up the temperatures in Africa because there where no sensors there, or that they used the temps in Siberia from summer all through winter without changing them. If you have to lie to support something, it's probably not true.

Here in my part of Texas, we are experiencing the coolest summer in a very long time. Twice last week we broke records for the coolest temps on record. The weather guys said Harvey was remaining in place and dropping so much water because of how cool it was there. This does not mean human activity is causing global cooling. It just means the weather is always changing.

The day climate scientist can predict what the weather is going to be like next week, is the day I will start paying attention to their predictions of what it will be like in 100 years.

It's very disappointing how some people want to make something political that literally the entire rest of the civilized world has agreed is happening.

Take a read of the Ars article I posted earlier. Europe is destroying us in terms of predictions for storms precisely because they are making the right investments and building a welcoming environment versus our divided political beliefs here. Understanding our climate isn't somehow disconnected from predictions and basic science, they're deeply interconnected and ignoring one means that we suffer across the entire spectrum.

Yup ... and that intensification could happen very, very fast.

A good example of just how fast is 2015's Hurricane Patricia - which saw a wind speed increase of 120 mph - to 215 mph sustained winds - in about 24 hours.

Building a welcoming environment? The EU is a mess!

How refreshing finally the voice of reason. Exactly my feelings. Thank You Eddie.

In terms of climate science? Totally.

Who would want to go into that field when they are ridiculed and told they are politicizing something that every other developed country agrees about. You spend 6-8 years getting a Masters/PHD in the field you want to study and then half of the country you want to work in thinks that what you do is a sham?

People do leave, either to other countries or into other industries where the pay is better(data science jobs are easily multi-6 figure salary jobs). This causes a brain drain which leads to worse predictions which leads us back to the situation where people are told to evacuate with < 24hr notice.

What odds are you giving that the "governors" have got it right for those ordered to evacuate already? From the looks, "THEY" might have it wrong , again.
Coast side up through the Carolinas? or Gulf side and Miss?

No wonder the trust is thin.

I think you'll find that we're actually violently agreeing on this point. NOAA and GFS have been far off the mark and that's where most US officials are basing their evacuation orders from.

I posted US forecast models have been pretty terrible during Hurricane Irma | Ars Technica earlier, please give it a read if you haven't.
