Hurricane Michael

It's been pure **** here. House survived but all other buildings destroyed. Family is safe that's most important.

Your last sentence says it all .

I have a college buddy in the same situation, after the Ottawa tornado this Fall. Big old farmhouse still standing, with some roof damage, but all outbuildings including a 100+ year old bank barn gone, and most of his hardwood bush is gone. Family good, all the rest can be replaced eventually.

I hope your roads, power, and other services come back soon - stay safe during the recovery efforts, rebuilding can be a pretty dangerous time too.

I passed a convoy of power line workers tonight, headed back to their homes in New Brunswick Canada. Presumably they were down South helping get the power back up.

I was lucky to only have lost power for about 18 hours. I always count it a blessing to be able to exercise the generators and oil lamps and live quietly for an evening.

I only had a 100'+ tall tulip tree go down and through a neighbor's fence and the top of another tree go through the roof of a shed. Nothing critical, all easily fixed.

We made it back from Northwest Florida. In all my years, I have never seen the level of destruction as I saw this week! It will be months before they can get power back to many areas down there. All the homes along the beach use lift pumps for the septic system. Without power, the systems are backing up.

It is very hot during the day with 98% humidity! Getting fuel is very difficult for the people trying to run chain saws and generators.

However, seeing people of all walks of life coming together to help one another is such a blessing. You can see the power of God working in and through everyone there.

Everyone keep the victims of Michael in your thoughts and prayers as this will be a very hard row for them to hoe!

We're there things you could help with over there? Could you find food and lodging nearby?

Everybody is equal after a hurricane (and at the DMV, MVA, Registry, etc.) so you might as well get along.

And, what would the need look like around Christmas? I値l have about 30 days of post deployment leave and could bring lots of tools/labor for at least a few of those.

Did your Dad evacuate , or does he have power back ?

Glad to hear your trip ended safely.
