Husqvarna quitting consumer grade mowers

For reasons I do not know I have an MTD Cub Cadet walk behind. I have never changed the oil in it and may never will until I am gray and old. Its not a bad mower and it gets the job done, I fixed it once or twice but its recoil kicks like a mule and bites like a crocodile.

Another disparaging note was that MTD has begun, and will expand, the use of their own vertical shaft engines, leaving Briggs & Stratton out. That's a lot of lost American jobs, assuming more Chinese made parts being used.
Thing is, the B&S engines are mostly, or completely made in china too!

The crux of the article says that after next year if you want a consumer grade mower such as a walk-behind you'll get a MTD made product, regardless of what color it is.

One of the main reasons for the change is the loss of Sears switching to only MTD made products. In the past Sears mowers were made by Husqvarna. No more.

More detail is discussed int eh article in TodaysMower.com.[/QUOTE]

Going back into the 70's MTD was the prominent maker of mowers for sears! I consider them bid mowers and were and are built to a price. Husqvarna with the purchase of roper started out bidding mtd. Plane and simple they were cheaper.

I think I misunderstood. I'm now thinking Husqvarna branded mowers will continue, while the Poulan, McCulloch, etc and store brands are being dumped.
Good for the Husqvarna name - building anything to a price point is a brutal business model.

I don't think it says that at all.

It lists strategic priorities. Under Strategic Priorities, one of the points is Brand Investments.

Then it lists the brands:
McCulloch
Poulan Pro
Weed Eater
Flymo
Jonsered
Private labels

To me, that says they are going to invest in those brands, not dump them.

Yeah, I dont get it.
What you cite is last years forecast and vision for the forthcoming year 2018, which includes the now historical statement "Due to the Division’s unsatisfactory financial starting point, the overarching priority of recent years and for the coming years is margin recovery.
To me, this says the CBD was in trouble in 2017, and it was only getting worse.

The latest release (OP) says that the Consumer Brands Division is being dissolved into Husq. and Gardena. The CBD includes that list (McCullogh et al.) and "Private Labels." So if the CBD is dissolved it cannot focus on anything, and will the price point brands be kept and only the "private label" brands go away? What private label is left after Craftsman left and MTD expands?

I'm thinking HUSQ cant make a go of the CBD and finally decided to eliminate it and all of the brands within.

BTW, been to Tractor Supply lately or shopped TSC online? Jonsered is out, and the Husqvarna branded items are in. Why would TSC dump Jonsered?
