Husqvarna quitting consumer grade mowers

I don't remember Jonsered being at TSC all that many years to begin with. In fact, I never heard of them around here until just a few years ago, and that was only because someone mentioned them on TBN and then they started showing up in TSC.

BTW, been to Tractor Supply lately or shopped TSC online? Jonsered is out, and the Husqvarna branded items are in. Why would TSC dump Jonsered?
Because Husqvarna who owns Jonsered is no longer making many of the models under the Jonsered name.

They now will be called Red Max...

Another name change!

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

What ever happened to brand consistency? Not just them, but pretty much every product.

Not to derail the thread, but this reminds me of the guitar business. Electric guitar design has not significantly advanced since the late 50's, but every couple of years the major manufacturers rename, change color palettes, maybe tweak the shape, and then spin it as the greatest advances since Apollo 11.

As of May of this year, Craftsman products valued at over $149.99 manufactured by MTD can be serviced and warrantied through the normal MTD service network. MTD notified their dealers around the first part of June, and they set up the Craftsman model numbers in the MTD dealer system for warranty.

Interesting, my local Wal-Mart had a Murray rider marked down from $1199 to $890 a couple of weeks ago. The label under the seat listed the manufacturer as HOP (Husqvarna Outdoor Products)

I think I'll slow down on adding to that list until I see where Husqvarna is going, which is to say my future ZTR may or may not be Husqvarna.

We have a Dixon SpeedZTR that my Wife had before we married. It's getting old and beat up these days, and we were talking about getting a new Husqy to replace it. We've had great service from the two riders and two push mowers and the line trimmer. However, this may change that for us, too.

Dixon is also owned by Husqvarna.

Oh, but you're forgetting the greatest thing since sliced bread ... robotuners! :laughing:

Seriously, though, that's a pretty good comparison. A Gibson Les Paul vs an Epiphone Les Paul, or a Fender Stratocaster vs a Squier Stratocaster; same guitars with different nameplates, made in different factories, and sold at different price points ... yet owned by the same company.

I've always been under the impression my Craftsman mowers were made by American Yard Products. Can't find a lot of wiki on them these days but some indications are AYP aquired Husqvuarna in 1978.

Was reading this thread that claims to have a timeline of changes. Not sure where this person got their info but it reads believable.

According to my dealer, the price-point models will go away - the ones sold to big-box stores. He's sold dozens of riders (mine was his first!) and has only had warranty work on the consumer-grade models. A couple of those were so bad that they didn't get 10 hours on them before Husqvarna bought them back. According to the dealer, my mower is considered a commercial-grade machine, and those will continue to be made.

Teachu2, I'm very glad to learn that the Husqvarna dealers will continue to sell commercial-grade machines. I'd hate to know that I have no support for the numerous Husqvarna machines that I have. I'm still left wondering if they will continue to sell the small equipment line such as string trimmers, chain saws, etc. Do you have an info on that side?
