Hydraulic auger recommendations for my FEL

I wonder if one of these mini excavators augers would work for a tractor FEL auger?

My TC45DA has 9.8 gal per minute flow rating.

That setup should work fine. 18 GPM fits right in the EP1530’s range, and routing from the rear remotes usually only loses a small amount of flow if you keep hose runs clean and the right size. I’d definitely fit a cross-port relief — it’s cheap protection if the bit binds up.

For sandstone and heavy clay, a rock bit or combo bit with carbide teeth will dig slower but handle abuse better.

To my surprise, the rear remote lever that I use to run the auger seems to pop out of it's 'continuous detent' position, effectively turning itself off, when the bit stalls.

I guess that's not exactly the same level of protection that a cross-port relief provides, right?

That looks interesting for $500. Maybe I missed it, but no mention of what GPM it needs.

That particular one doesn’t list it, but it’s for a small gas powered mini excavator.

This one lists 53 liters per minute which converts to 14 gallons per minute.

That's a pretty attractive price. Most of us only use an auger everyone once in a while and that price is competitive with PTO augers. Just run some hoses from your rear remotes up to the front and you're good to go.

You're exactly right, that detent popping out isn’t the same as having a cross-port relief. The lever jumping out just cuts flow when it senses pressure spike, but it doesn’t actually relieve that pressure safely within the auger motor circuit. A cross-port relief valve lets the pressure bypass internally between ports, protecting the motor from sudden torque spikes when the bit jams.

I’d still recommend adding one. It’ll keep the system safer and extend the life of your auger motor, especially in rocky or heavy clay conditions.

Can you post a couple pics of the mount you built for your auger.
I am not home to get better pics right now, but I didn't have to fabricate anything for the mount. I bought a blank SSQA plate off Amazon. The mounting bracket came with the auger, it was meant to mount to the mini-excavator quick attach pins. I just bolted the bracket straight to the SSQA plate using some 1/2" bolts.
