Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

This picture shows the hydraulic restrictors that will slow the flow of fluid to the motor so it will turn slower. They are adjustable and when set, have a set screw to hold them so they are tamper proof.

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

This is the final installation, before painting which will be done when warmer weather arrives in the spring, showing how the completed unit looks on the snowblower. Now, all the functions of the snowblower will be controlled by the joy stick(s)

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Junk it's looking real good so far. Where did you find that bronze bushing that you used?

That looks like a hex head cap screw to me that you used for the shear pin. If it is you might want to touch a file to it to see how hard it is. Some of them are hardened steel which isn't the best material to use for a shear pin.

Are you ordering your hoses on-line from discounthydraulichose.com?

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing a finished blower. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Junkman,

Very nice!

I've always wondered, what causes the hydraulic motor to stop turning once it reaches the chute's max rotation. Is this up to the operator? Will the motor just keep twisting if you aren’t paying attention? If so, is it strong enough to do any damage?

Thanks,

KB

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Absolutely fantastic......I just priced out an electric kit and that was $300 plus shipping.......

I going to do something like what you did with the hydraulics next summer(if we ever have a summer!)

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

PineRidge...... I have the hoses from years ago when I was in the truck equipment business. 1/4" was not a popular size, so there were a few left over. The bolt is a round head Allen machine screw that is soft steel. I checked it for hardness, and I would say that it is about a #2 quality. Got it at the hardware store where quality isn't a factor. Also got the bushing there. They have a cardboard drawer selection of bushings. It cost $3.20, so I figured it was cheap enough to give it a try and if it didn't work out, I wasn't out much money. The biggest pain was remembering how to adjust the King Pin reamers. Been 30+ years since I used them last.

Killer B.......... You are correct, if you don't pay attention to what you are doing, you can really "screw" it around and do some serious damage. That is the reason for the "regulators" on the motor. They will slow it to the point that it won't turn too fast and I know that I will be watching it turn. If I don't, I will get a face full of snow!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

SandyC......... I paid $50 for the motor..... $30 for the motor bracket.... $20 for the bent steel bracket.....$3.20 for the bushing.... $50 for the regulators, coupling, and misc. fittings from Surplus Center..... $8.00 for paint.... and the value of the 2 hoses???? Male and female quick disconnects $25..... so I guess that the whole thing all totaled is going to be around $200. My reason for going hydraulic is that I don't like using electric motors with dealing with wires, fuses, relays, etc. for tractor use. I will post the final pictures and report when I have it working tomorrow. I guess that I have a total of 4 -6 hours in the project if I don't count the time that I spent chasing down different items like the two right angle NPT fittings.... went to a friends home to get them and wound up spending the day.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Junkman

Looks real nice. I am waiting to hear how well it works. Are you expecting snow?

Between you and Pineridge we will have to see who can blow the most snow before a design flaw comes up if ever. (Although I think you get alot more snow there)

I am wondering if there might be a way to test the shear force needed to break your shear bolt before it does damage.? I imagine (I Have never used one) when your using the blower you are almost always looking back at it anyway so I guess the odds of you not noticing movement of the chute would be a really unusual situation .
Anyways good job and good luck.

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Mikes snowblower is a rear mount, but at my age, the neck won't work in revers, so I purchased a front mount. The bolt that holds the whole thing together is about the diameter of a wooden stick match, so I am certain that it will fail before any damage is done. I will be testing it later today if I get the quick disconnects. Until then.............

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

I see. I had no idea it was a front mount. The size of a match stick does sound like it would shear way before damage occurred. I guess I need to pay better attention. Anyway good luck with the test and keep us posted

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Great job!

Didn't like my 'slip clutch' idea, eh?

And, if you are anything like me you aren't expecting snow, you are praying for it! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
