Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Hi Junkman - that's one fabulous looking orbit motor you have there - /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Your comment about getting snow in the face got me thinking - if the bottom flange on the chute had notches all the way around so it could turn 360, it would elliminate any chance of damage from too much torque. A narrow shield mounted behind the chute could prevent it blowing right at you. I added more notches to a walk-behind blower I had so it would send it over my left shoulder when doing a tight spot - it was handy to have more range of chute direction.

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

The only problem with 360 degree rotation is the chute deflector hydraulic hoses. You have to sacrifice some things for other converniences... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Here is a picture of the bracket that mounts to the snowblower. I took it off last evening so I could paint it. If the temperature would get a little warmer, I would have more motivation to bolt everything back on. I have about 30 minutes work, but in a garage at 12 degrees, I just don't want to do it. I think that the wrenches are about -12 degrees when you put them in your hand. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Besides, it will give the paint an extra day to dry... Junk....

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

Finished it up today and moved the tractor outside for a test run. It worked great for the first 5 minutes. I also found out that I didn't need the flow control valves on the motor since the hydraulics aren't high pressure as compared to what the motor will handle. The BX22 puts out about 3 GPM @just under 2000 PSI. There is a basic design flaw in using the bronze bushing. The Allan screw held the coupling to it tightly, but the bushing cracked at the point where it went on the shaft of the snowblower. I immediately called Junkman Engineering to discuss this with them, but they were not interested. They claim that all parts come with a 5 / 50 warranty and that it was out of warranty since 5 seconds and 50 inches had been met. The further blamed me for not using Synthetic oil on the parts and not having a oil test done. They claimed that had I done a oil test, the results would have shown the particles of the bushing in the oil and that it was going to lead to a failure. Then, they said that PineRidge Manufacturing should also share in the blame, since they made the recommendation to use the flow control valves. I called PineRidge Manufacturing and after being put on hold for an hour, a machine came on the line and said to dial 7 for the complaint department. I listened to the message and it said to go to Helen Waite for an answer. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif This leaves me with no other alternative but to redesign the coupling system from scratch. My thought is to use the original steel coupling and drill a hole at the opposite side of the Allan screw and insert a nut and bolt through the steel coupling, the bushing, and the shaft rotation metal stem. Junk..

Doooh! I haven't been keeping up on this project - forgot all about the deflector. really long hoses?

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

that bushing looks like some really weak and brittle stuff - would a short piece of reinforced hydraulic hose work as a flexible drive coupling? Could bolt it tight on both ends and it would give soft landing at ends of travel? would still need to back off the valve to keep from deforming the worm.

It has been relegated to the Junkman design team to work on it during my sleep. I will have the resolution to the problem in the morning permanently embedded in my brain. When all else fails, go to sleep and the answer will come to you. Works every time for me..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ..... even if it takes a week of sleepless nights.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Shoulda, coulda, woulda used the same coupler I used and you would now be home free Junk and you needen't have called my machine and been left on hold indefinitely either. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'll help you out here and take the 2 restrictors off your hands since you won't be needing them. I'll probably need them to slow down the cylinder on the grapple project and I was going to pick up a set at Surplus Center anyway. Since they are now used and abused I'll give you pennies on the dollar. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John taught me a trick about painting. If it's small enough item to get it in the oven once the piece dries tack free I pop it in the oven at about 200 degrees and bake it bout 4 to 8 hours. It rally makes the paint hard like an automotive finish. The wife took one look at my grapple and promptly said forgetaboutit it isn't going in the oven, period. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I could have used your method, however, since the Kubota is the Rolls Royce of tractors, I just couldn't bring myself to the lower quality standards that are employed on the blue tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did that back in 1959 when I repainted the steering wheel of my 1955 Chevy. My mother wasn't very impressed when she saw what I was baking. After that, I was relegated to using the old gas stove that was located in the cellar for holiday cooking, rather than her new electric stove in the kitchen. Women just don't understand the multi functions of kitchen appliances such as stoves and dish washers. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Hydraulic Chute Rotator on the BX2750 Snowblower

The updated modification is completed. I drilled an additional hole in the keyed adapter after removing the Allan set screw and now have installed a through bolt in its place. I tried it and now it seems to work just fine. Only wish that I hadn't cut the ends off of the splined adapter, since it is now short on both ends, but it will work as is...
