John,

Thanks for checking back. Yes, there is still a minor amount of frothing on the #4 line. Noticed this when I took the FEL off yesterday. I talked to my JD dealer service and he stated that if the FEL seems to be acting normal - no jerking, no abnormal noises while operating, etc., don't worry - be happy (Sounds like a song /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). He suggested that if I'm still concerned, he can stop by and check it out. This dealer has a three week rotation and they can schedule a visit when coming thru.

There are three things that I am monitoring:

1. The minor frothing - don't even now where to begin to tighten any connections.

2. I have moved the FEL control stick back and forth without the FEL connected and hear a bang when I move the stick to the right (I believe). All the other positions make no noise. I mentioned this to the dealer and they said that a linkage arm may be hitting something and causing the bang. Hmmm - well then why doesn't that happen when the FEL is attached.

3. After turning off the tractor and with the FEL raised, the FEL will drop slowly to the ground. This will take 1/2 hour or more.

So, I think that I'll have JD service guy stop by in a few weeks. Want to do this before winter really sets in.

Another question - HST noise. How noisy should they be? Is it normal for them to squeel when accelerating? Don't know how to describe it any better/

Again, thanks for touching base.

OBTW, did you receive the check from us?

The saga continues.....

Came home from work last evening and lo and behold an oil spot under my detached FEL. Aha.... the evidence is displayed in the attachment.

It appears as thought the seal for the nipple on this male quick attach is leaking. My guess is that it is shot and cannot be repaired.

Does anyone think that it is warrantee work or, oops heaven forbid, operator error?

It appears that the bad seal is may be causing the frothing (refer to previous posts in this thread on frothing/foaming) also. #4 Head-End lift cyl and #3 Rod-End lift cyl.

It's easy to see the problem in your photo. You have a GREEN tractor. Of course you could paint it ORANGE.
Just kidding :)

It may be a warranty item. A lot of dealers will replace it no questions asked. If your dealer will not, try TSC for a replacement. Hydraulic Fittings Online also has them. The couplers that came with my Orange tractor do not leak./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif But the ones I purchased from Northern Tool do./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Can' we, can't we just get along together.....

Geez, people can't be color blind. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

If the Kubota fittings work, why did you have to buy new ones from Northern???? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Next time - black and white photo's. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Geez....

I'm not color blind./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif That's my problem in this case. I have some green attachments. But I keep thinking I should invest in some Orange paint. This may affect how well they work. So the color stays Green until they give me trouble. Then I'll try changing color to fix them./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I bought 10 sets of them to give me quick disconnect at front and rear of tractor. They only leak when I don't have a cylinder hooked up./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif You get what you pay for.

I talked to my JD dealer and he said to that some manufacturing debris could be the problem. The seal is metal to metal, he says. No O-ring. So, I tried to pull out what appeared to be a piece of O ring or rubber. When I pushed the nipple in the rubber slipped back in.

Okay, now I have to remove the quick attach. I had a heck of time trying to get the thing off. Since I've never messed with hydraulics before I called my neighbor John over to lend a hand. He plays around with avionics and high pressure systems so I figured he would be the guy to have around.

We get the silly thing off after a few kind, manly, Naval words. We get the thing off and no rubber is floating around loose. John says that it has to be an inner O ring seal because metal to metal would not seal very effectively under higher pressure.

Well, I guess the short of it is that I have to replace the quick attach male nozzle. And of course, I couldn't get to the dealer in enough time to have them supply me a replacement (warrentee, of course).

The problem has finally be identified and will be solved in short order. Moral to the story. Don't take advise from your dealer over the phone. Just dive in a try to fix it yourself - with a little help from the TBN folks, of course. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Terry

P.S. - John Miller - looks like you were right on the money with a localized problem e.g. O ring.
