Save your self the money and bypass your gear box and direct drive the drill shaft. it is what I did.

Surplus Center - 28.3 cu in HYD WHEEL MOTOR W/5 BOLT HUB

Did a bit of rigging and this thing is a monster. I can post pix if you need it.

OOOooh. I like.

That's got me thinking of actually building that self powered dumper that I've had in the back of my head for a while.

I'd like to see pics of what you've done with it. I always like seeing other people's work.

Thanks!

It takes about 34 HP at 2500 psi to run that motor hub assembly.

Here ya go.

All in with hoses, connectors, it was $1000. I had all the steel cut and drilled, did my own welding. Got a good bit that set me back more than I expected. And the hoses and connectors were brutal. The bit is 12" but I am sure I could spin a 30 in my dirt no problem. Just don't have the 1200 for that bit.

It eats up roots, I don't really have rocks. About the only thing that has stopped it was when I drilled into my double walled culvert by mistake. That was a mess....

For reference, I am 18GPM at 3100 PSI and a 65HP engine backing it up

I'm going to have to bone up more on my hydraulics knowledge to get a better understanding of all of this. What kind of hydraulic pump would it take to drive four of those motor hub assemblies?

If you used 4 of those motor, then you would have to pump about 80 GPM, and at 3000 psi, HP required would be about 164.

Try some smaller wheel motors.

I'm probably approaching this from the wrong angle.

Is there a formula for how much torque from a wheel motor it would take to move a certain amount of weight at a certain speed?

For instance if I had four driven wheels - and I wanted to move 10,000 pounds at 5mph - how would I figure the wheel motor requirements to do that?

That kind of engineering is a little bit above my level

For that much weight, I would compare the hyd motors on a large skidsteer, or something equivalent.

That is alot simpler way to get to where I want to go. Did you just build an adapter for the auger and bolt it onto the motor or is there more to that connection than I see?

I was shopping for flush face hydraulic adapters and noticed that the 1/2 inch only seems to flow 11gpm. That is about half what I can produce. Am I onto the wrong thing or is 11gpm all a half inch connector will flow?

Jim what kind of connectors do you have on your setup?

JJ any advice? it appears that that motor Jim posted has 1/2 in bsppm but indicates that it has a 20-24 gpm flow rating. That leads me to believe that a 1/2 inch port must have the capability to flow at least 20-24 gpm?

School me fellas!!

Are you referring to my build Rio?

I kept the wheel motor hub, basically I plan to put a log splitter on it later...

I then had a round peice of steel cut, appropriate holes drilled, and a pole welded to it. Bolted it on. Now I can take any 2" round auger bits.
