It looks like two of the 3 pieces of that coupler are missing, unless I don't understand what I'm looking at. There's supposed to be a rubber shock absorber and another steel jaw that mates with the jaw in the picture. The question is where did those pieces go and how could this pump ever have produced pressure? The picture gets fuzzy to the left, maybe those pieces are out of view, or there's a way for the pieces to fall off the end of the shaft.
Yeah, a better picture of that coupling needs to be posted. It certainly looks like it is missing two pieces. Maybe the two missing pieces have migrated away from the one piece visible in the picture. Though from the picture I can't tell if there is enough room for this to happen.

If the pump coupling was broken you would get no hydraulic movement.

I agree with others that you need to take a closer look at and maybe some better pics of the coupler.

Not always true. Sometimes when things wear or break....there is just enough friction to still spin the pump and move a fraction of the fluid at a fraction of the pressure its supposed to
