Just to clarify my previous post, when the rippers were rotated up, they were still below the top of the box. So when filled, the wet clay would pack around and over the rippers. When you lifted the BB all of the clay would stay in the BB. Even what was under the rippers!

This is a better design, for the rotating style, the rippers come up higher, out of the box.

I appreciate everyones input.
I don't know which style is strongest, but I like the vertical design on my Cammond.

I may have a line on a used Frontier BB4284H, which from photos appears to be a rebadged Gannon. I don't know if it is a 4x2, or 4x4 model. If anybody knows, please chime in as I'm going to chase off and look at it Monday as an excuse to get my mum and two dogs out and about (we like winter road trips).

I must not be using the tractorbynet App right. I thought I uploaded a photo properly, but I guess not. Anyway, here are two photos of that Frontier BB4284H.

Questions:

1) Does anybody know if this is the high profile or low profile version of Gannon's blade?

2) does anybody know if this is a 2x4 or 4x4 version of Gannon's blade?

3) Any pushback against using this blade with a SpeeCo Cat 2 quick hitch on my 60hp Kioti which is balasted to about 7800 pounds with the loader attached and is 78" wide at the rear wheels?

Answers:

1) It is a High Back.

2) I don't know what 2x4 or 4x4 means.

3) Read the specs and decide if it will hold up OK.

Wow, thanks guys.

Does anybody know if a standard SpeeCo Cat 2 (which one must shim out Cat2 to Cat3 spacers on the bottom) the same as John Deere's iMatch or Quick coupler?

My Quick Hitch: SpeeCo Category 2 Tractor Quick Hitch (Type: Standard) at Blain's Farm & Fleet

It looks like Gannon did make a HD4284HB blade. Big Iron

Looks like it was marketed as a 4x2 version.

And it appears to have a different tailgate than the Frontier blade.

And it looks like the Cat 1 and Cat 2 mounts are different too.

Eric I know most of the frontier stuff has pin locations for both imatch and standard quick hitch. I believe the lower holes in the picture are for the imatch. And the upper holes are standard quick hitch.

My BH27 will do imatch it has a toplink hole location 3-4 inches above the standard pin location. You should need the standard cat2 -3 bushings for your speeco

Xfaxman link seems to indicate that it will to both.

The 4x4 gannons have dual curved moldboards that have a closed box section making it extremely strong not sure About the 2x4

I told my 88-year-old mum that we're going to chase out in the morning and check this thing out. In consideration of the suggested retail price, the price they're asking used is what I expect I'd pay for a new one, and so I told my mother that we either get a deal, or we walk off that much smarter and we get lunch at one of our favorite small-town places on the way back and I run the dogs at a park.

OK now I know it is the tractor powered axles, related to the strength of the Box Scraper.

I've learned that the distinction Gannon makes between 4x2 and 4x4 models may be important. Anyway, in Gannon's line up, the best price I've gotten is $3200 for an 80HB, which is the high back floating tailgate version, which is the direction I'm leaning as I think it'll work with my SpeeCo Cat 2 standard Quick Hitch.

It's hydraulic in that I use the three point to pick it up LOL, first build:

After I added the blade, it flips down in front of the teeth to level it out. The teeth are removeable should it get into something real knarley. I tow it with my 204 Jinma;

Well, have a good trip to Belle Plaine tomorrow. Hope you get a good deal on it.

. . . One thing that hasn't been made clear to me is if either the Commond or Gannon tailgates can be locked down. . . .

You may have figured this out by now, but my old Gannon tailgate can be (and usually is) locked down with a pin on each side.

I know that Ted from ETA designed his differently because he was concerned about hitting something and bowing the tailgate in the middle. On my tractor (and probably yours too), I think something else would break before that massive tailgate would bend.

Tomorrow is a holiday, but I would think the dealer will be open.

The Station has the best double bacon burger in southern Minnesota.

And the market is closed so I don't need to mind the store.

Even so, I'll call ahead.
