I am a final year mechanical student interested in tractor operations from hydraulics to it design, am interested in learning more and finding answers.
Would like to convert a manuel hydraulic bottle jack to an elecric one by integrating an external hydraulic pump, can i ask if it is feasible?

Are you wanting to use the jack as the reservoir like it is from factory or use a totally separate pump motor reservoir assembly?

Yes. The machine shop, tool making, tool sharpening shop I worked at from my earliest years (yes, I dated Jerry's daughter) had a bottle jack that had a hydraulic pump attached to the shop press. But you need the right bottle jack. Not any one will do. Then some mods may be necessary because the pressure went in to the bottle jack pressure release valve and the flow rate of the pump can not be too much or it's too hard to control. The hydraulic pump was for fast movement but the hand pump was for fine work.

Not too many things are more dangerous than the shop press. A stout frame that does not flex. An over pressure bypass. Pi times R squared times pump pressure. Not a mod for a harbor freight frame.

Yes you can do a conversion relatively easy. Determine if you can the jack you intend maximum working pressure under manual operation. There will be some type of built in over load protection to prevent over pressure. Hopefully you can look up the specific brand you have and determine what they use. Harbor Freight for example has a spring loaded check at least on some models. This video link is to a guy who did a conversion. While you are going to most likely want a much better pump (higher pressure} most everything else I saw is good information. Use hydraulic fittings for all the high pressure parts. Keep us posted on how it goes and works. Sounds like a fun project.

Hydraulic pressure isn't a joke because any injection requires immediate medical attention. That's why you don't want to use fittings and hoses that aren't rated for the pressure involved.

Is this for a specific purpose, a school project perhaps? It would not be an invention however. You can buy them on Vevor for $75.
