Hydro's and brake pedals

Robert and Patrick,
Had they put a cup holder in the center of the hood your arguments about opinion VS fact could be applied there, too.

Exactly what argument of opinion vs fact (of mine) is it to which you refer?

Few facts have been introduced into evidence by anyone on this thread beyond the FACT that some tractors have less than ideal ergonomics in the OPINION of some users (or idle passers by with the need to preach THEIR gospel to everyone.)

It is a verifiable FACT that HST and cutting brakes on the same side as evidenced by my tractor are clumsy (but certainly not impossible for those with a modicum of coordination and full use of their faculties) to use and if actually needed would be improved greatly by installing a "slave" HST pedal on the left. Said installation is not difficult and would remove the reason for this discussion to have happened or continued (except for the ego stroking aspects.)

I bear no ill will toward anyone who uses, needs to use, thought they might one day use, or just doesn't give a darn about cutting brakes. It may be sad that someone spent a lot of money buying a tractor that isn't right for them but life is hard and then you die and right now we are in the hard part but why intentionally make it harder?

A hood mounted drink holder might be very useful for non-cab tractors but I get your meaning as ridiculous as it may be. If you really want to get a "rise" out of someone with the temerity to hold a different opinion than you then I suggest you try your tactics on someone who really cares. As I have explained at length multiple times, I, like many thousands of other happy tractor users, don't need and normally don't use cutting brakes so we just don't really have a stake in this. I'm sorry that this is such an emotionally charged issue for you that you feel it necessary to somehow defend your position against all comers but try to get over it. A lot of us just don't have a meaningful stake in cutting brakes one way or the other and to try to motivate us to turn out with torches and pitchforks to man the barricades in protest against the MFG producing the items of your ridicule is going to be an abysmal failure.

I have pointed out a simple straight forward remedy for those who have a tractor with the "curse" of poor HST/cutting brake ergonomics and if it is important to any particular owner then install the remedy and get on with your life. An indefinitely continued discussion here of the topic will not solve anyones problem that has a "cursed" tractor.

Or the treadle VS 2 pedal hydro controls debate.

Haven't seen that one in awhile :)

Cup holders? Did someone mention beverage holders. Now I bone to sorta pick with John Deere!:(:(

Cup holders, their contents and location do interest me. My JD4200 has a cup holder on the right fender or I should say a depression in the fender which will hold a cup. It is located well back and almost impossible for short armed stiff old fellows to reach. I don't like it's location and will not use it. On the other hand almost all my tractor activities require full time use of both hands so actually a beverage holder is just a place to collect water.:D
But when out Play Farming and do require a beverage I have the perfect holder. A pine log chunk that stands about one foot high. It is placed alongside the comfortable chair I prefer which in turn is place upwind of the firehill I am partial to.

On the other hand my 96 Dodge has a cup holder nicely placed and easily reached. Apparently empirical research was done on placement before this location was decided on. I like it's location and will use it as both hands need not be continuously engaged in guiding the truck even though it only has one brake pedal place such that either my right or left foot may depress it.
[Wonder where the English place their pedals??]:D

Egon,
We have a split cup holder in our 2000 Impala. It holds two cups side by side. It is located exactly where my hand falls when I use the center arm rest. It even has a nice little split two cup insert so you can easily take it out and clean it. However, the jumbo bladder buster cups that you get at all the fine eating establishment drive ups these days tend to get wedged into it once in a while. Occasionally when you heft one of those big puppies up to take a sip you also get the split cup holder insert stuck to the bottom of the cup. It scares the bajeebers out of you because it comes up in the right field of view only, making you think a black truck is coming out of the blind side ready to T-bone you. As your body takes automatic protective measures to cover your head by tossing up your right arm to prevent injury you end up throwing a quart and a half of soda pop into your face. Now, that car was built in Canada, but I think it was designed in the U.S. Anyhow, what appeared to be a very well thought out design for the size and placement of the split cup holder turned out to be a real safety hazard. I'm thinking of selling the car for one with a larger diameter cup holder. :p

Re: cupholders - If I use anything while on the tractor, it is a variation of the Chalkey cup. Best cup concept ever developed for tractor use :D Most of the posters in this thread have not been around long enough to even know what that is...

Long live MChalkley!!! :D
