Ok - I did my first idiot thing of the year - I feel like a total tool.

50 Hours on the 2920. So I go and change the oil - not hard - easy - right?

After I drain - new filter - plugs are back - I go to fill - not hard.

After I dump....say 3 qts in - I go and check the level - you guessed it - nothing.

I am a little shocked and that is when I see there are TWO (2) OIL FILLS!!!!! AHAHAHAHA!!!! - yes I'm a idiot.

So, I try and determine where I just dumped 3 qts of 15W40 and I can not find this anywhere in the manual.....

So - anyone PLEASE tell me where this all went so I can correct.

Funny but the oil fills look exacly the same one on each side of the engine.

Any feedback would be greatly apprecaited.

Thx.

I just happened to see your post and I know you must be anxious ...I am not familiar with your tractor but I would not panic just yet....Try a process of elimination..first find in your manual where the hydrualic fluid fill is - then you can eliminate that and so forth. There are others on TBN that will offer more I am sure...also have you checked on www. Messicks.com for their info on changing oil they may have diagrams that can help you.

The Caps are identical - and say "OIL".

When I looked at the manual it points to the top Oil fill. This one is lower under the air-filter.

and Anxious isnt even close - I am freaking out!!!

Thanks guys!

Anyone else......

If you put the oil into the engine via the oil fill on the rocker arm cover and the oil is not showing on the dipstick I would guess it went into the piston chamber(s). Please determine where the oil went prior to trying to start the engine. You can rotate the engine manually by placing a socket on the front crankshaft bolt and determine if the engine will turn over freely. If oil is in the chamber the engine will only rotate so far and then lock. If the oil is indeed in the piston chamber(s) and an attempt to start the engine with the starter is made, serious damage could occur. If the oil is in the piston chamber you will need to remove the glow plugs and manually rotate the engine to blow the oil out.

Check your dip stick again to see if there is oil on it now. I dont know for sure on your motor but some have two fill points depending on if the engine is made for one application or several. On a cold motor it can take time for the oil to drain down to the pan. If you dont have oil on it now you do have a problem. The one thing that is very good is that you took the time to check and ask a question here before just starting it. :)

I know my New Holland has two oil fill caps. The lower one was installed on the engines by the factory because if the oil is put in through the top cap ... it would stay in the upper half of the engine and starve the bottom i.e.the crank & bearings.

It is hard to describe but there are two drain plugs in the sump (Messisks shows this) and you have to pull them in order to drain the oil.

So I just pulled the one that simewhat resides under this "second" oil fill (the one I used and yes the cap does say oil) and fresh oil came out.

Now the manual does shows to use the Oil Fill on top of the rocker arm as the one to replenish oil.

So I am assuming that the sump has two reservoir that make up the sump but the one I saw this fresh oil coming out does not show up on the dip stick.

I am totally confused.

Hey guys - I just read your last two posts - you are making me feel a little better (as I type on my PC key board with oil soaked hands). I think you are right - makes sence and the cap is identical to the one on top of the rocker.

I did feel I maybe out of the woods but there still is no oil showing on the dip. So my thinking now is to drop some in the top Oil fill, get some indicating on the dip and start her up and see if the oil on the dip comes up even more.

jambx - Relax - someone here is going to tell you how to get this fixed....but in the mean time do not start the tractor...as long as you don't do that whatever you did can be fixed..with little effort or expense.
