"What the h.ll happened?" (Not my exact words). I had forgotten to lower the winch the night before and it slowly lowered on its own thru the night. Next day when the pressure was applied, the winch rose back to the position selected on the 3pt control lever. About 4" into the centre of the open window.
I still don't understand how it happened. Why didn't it smash the window when you originally selected that position on the control lever the day before?

He opened the windows the next day.

What he said!

The point of all this was I messed up and maybe this will help someone else. Hopefully it will come to mind when they jump in their cab and they check the control before they start up their tractor.

My machine was quite new when I failed to pay attention to the angle of my bucket (non-self levelling), that was filled with firewood. I raised it to get a tight turn made. Once the arms were fully extended, I did not notice the bucket was too steeply angled backward and a big block of wood fell out and landed on my hood's nose cone, splitting it wide open.

Did the same thing within 10 hours of taking delivery of mine. I think you need to make rookie mistakes in order to properly program your brain to be more attentive to the tractoring task at hand.

YUP. Also, once it is banged, I tend not to stress too much about another scratch or ding here and there.

I did the same thing with a log and I was not a rookie, just in a hurry. The canopy saved me getting a 10" poplar log in my lap. I pray I never do that again.

Once that first "incident" is over, it kind of takes the edge off and you can use your tractor instead of thinking of it like a car that is going to be sold off in a short time. No biggie though OP! you weren't hurt except your wallet and pride. That's not a terrible day in my book.

I get what you are saying rmorey, a week ago I brought firewood up to the house with the bucket. I stopped in the drive to unload. Normally I always lower the bucket and the implements down to the ground before shutting it off and getting off. This time I didn't, I left the bucket up and I also left it in gear. So my deviated from my usual method. Well I came back an hour later to empty the bucket and half way through thought I'd run the tractor to warm up the engine so when I was finished I can put it away. Well before I go any further no one can be as hard on myself for a stupid mistake as me, I do feel foolish so go easy on me because the chain of events meant I broke some Cardinal rules. I stared the tractor while I was on the ground. As soon as I took the my foot off the clutch, the tractor shot forward and whent straight over my leg. Fortunately I had my car about 5 foot in front so the tractor bashed into the back and pushed it a bit till it luckily stalled. I was now pinned under the tractor and in a fair bit of pain, it took a bit to come to my senses and after calling out for about 5-10 mins I realised that no one could hear me. The next bit of luck, the tractor was on a bit of a decline so I eventually reached up and pushed the clutch down with my hand and the tractor rolled off my leg. Wow, I'm still can't believe how stupid I was and how luck I was to get out of it. While I was pinned under the wheel all I could think of is thank god I was in the driveway so someone will find me, if I was up the back of my block I would have been there for hours. So a bit of damage to the vehicle and massive damage to my pride but I got out lightly. I'm a bit bruised and have torn the ligaments in my leg and bruised my hip but a small penalty, so I got out lightly. I've really had a rethink about be complacent around the farming equip.
