None of your links, or anything else that I've read support your claims. All that you are doing is parroting his defense attorney's claims, giving no consideration to the other side of the story. Besides, I actually give them credit; I never believed that he would be taken alive. Try reading about his own comments to his friends, before anybody even knew what he had done. He killed Corporal Cole because the guy had arrested Williams' girlfriend for driving without a license. How depraved is that?

Trying to dig something up years later that involves wrong doing by state and or government officials isn't easy and sometimes impossible.. For all I know it was taken down a day after I read it.. There was an uproar about it and all of a sudden there was nothing, under the rug it went..

You live in Maine, maybe you should have followed the story if you cared.. You seem to care now , years later so you can jump on a bandwagon.. I figured you to be a leader not follower but I guessed wrong...

Believe me, I was all too familiar with the story; it was the third time in the last few years that a murderer was running around in the woods near where I was working. That's why the things which you say don't jive with what the rest of us were being told.

If tough on crime doesn't work then you must find out what goes wrong with society and fix it where the problem is made. Probably much cheaper to do than lock up people in great numbers and over very long time. Social services, better schools and cheap/free education is one way. Reduce poverty is always a good thing, poverty is root to all kinds of problems. And prisons should try to educate and rehabilitate those that have taken a few bad choises.

In a perfect world I think your ideas would work. However... we live in a far from perfect world. Many human beings are not wired for right or wrong, they are wired for destruction, self satisfaction at all costs, and hate. These people can not be rehabilitated and should be removed from society. Some of us would volunteer for that job.

Of course not all are a candidate, but a lot of this behaviour has reasons, bad parenting, children that struggles in school, often because they have challenges that need extra care and help. The parenting is the though case, many people have no clue or don't care at all how they are as a parent and society pays in form of individuals that are antisocial. It also a question on government Vs individual and it's a difficult balance.

Yet at the end of the day it doesn't matter why people turn out the way they do. Why should a criminal be able to get away with antisocial behavior when he takes it out on you and me?

Uhh, because that's how our election process works?

Too many people sit at home philosophising on the internet and not voting?

We think we can merely wish good behavior on the worst characters among us while expecting them to share our values?

Everyone thinks we're doing enough 'good works', or it looks that way from our front porch?

Just text this question to the guy(s) who made it this way. ;)

May be OT, but kenmac isn't in jail for listening to the wrong opinion ... (Trolls may remember me yet and resume their hobby :drink:)

If we're talking crime here, crime is more than likely the cause of the poverty instead of the other way around. First you have to acknowledge that I.Q. is a factor here, as is education. Criminals tend not to be in the genius range, and crime ridden areas are not know for fostering college professors. I recommend a book on the subject; "Life at the Bottom" written by an English psychiatrist who works with criminals, drug addicts and the mentally challenged.
