I recently purchased a Massey Fergusion 65 diesel year model 1963 I understand that there are 2 different diesel engines a 3.1 ltr and 3.3ltr how does one tell the difference

According to Tractor Data the 3.3 liter is an L head (or flat head) engine. The 3.1 liter is the more efficient overhead valve type. TractorData.com Massey Ferguson 65 tractor engine information

I believe the 3.1 is referred to in the parts book as a "Regular Diesel", while the 3.3 is referred to as a "Direct Injection"
