Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Rat, you should try standing for 3 hrs in a crowd of 16,000 sweaty people , at 90+ deg with high humidity. I just got back from a 2 night Dave Mathew's concert at Columbus Ohio (outdoors)...where my wife and I did just that. Then if the band gets the crowd going, you got this sea of humanity doing the bump and grind. Talk about the place heating up. You get sandwiched between 2 women dancing, and you just go with the flow...sweat and all. Not all bad though....

Of course, I have been in your neck of the woods too. You put a rookie midwesterner out there and in 2hrs they are suffering from dehydration. There's a reason for people running around with bottled water in their hands.

Boy, you got that right!
I literally have to take my glasses off and dry 'em before I can drive.
From about now until Sept, 100% humidity is the norm here in Houston.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

This is the worst part of the year here in North Texas. The temps start getting in the 90s with some humidity. I like it better in July and August when its hotter, but not usually near as humid.

I really hate it around Houston from May to October. REAL humid.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Been here in Tucson, AZ, for a week now (on an assignment). It get into the 90's every day and a few days of low 100s. But the humidity is quite low, I'd guess 20% to 30%. It just doesn't feel hot like in California when it's in the 90's and normally around 40% to 50% RH.

Interestingly, when you leave the over AC'd offices to go to the car it isn't too bad. The sweat evaporates so quickly your shirts don't stick to you. The evaporative cooling makes it seem like it's not so hot. An interesting experience, but I DO CARRY lots of water bottles around. And I am glad this is a temporary situation.

They've got the hot days to come here in AZ when it get above 110, I'm really looking forward to the next few trips in that heat. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Hah!

Haven't heard from the Fla contingent. Florida in the summer, that was the worst I've experienced--even worse than Boston. Laying on the bed in the hotel on your stomach, you can feel the mushrooms growing in the small of your back.

Rat: my wife says it rained there last few days and it's warming up now. I had to grin, thinking I wouldn't be out in the yard working while the 90 degree days evaporated up all that rain. Hopefully it'll be dried out by the time I get back.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

That's nothing.

Yesterday at 5:29am, a report came in from Warrenton, VA at 100% humidity. And it was NOT raining.

The last few days in the Washington DC area have been opressive to say the least. Even when the pop-up thunderboomers come through, all they provide is more water to evaporate.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

I spent 10 weeks at the FBI academy at Quantico in '86 (late March to early June) and one weekend afternoon decided to visit Mount Vernon. My transportation at the time was my Honda Aspencade, and it didn't take long on the hot pavement on that motorcycle for me to decide to get back where there was air-conditioning. The weather report said it was 94 degrees and 94% humidity.

However, at 4 a.m. here this morning, it's 77 degrees and 77% humidity.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

I agree with Blueridge. The worst place for heat and humidity I have lived is Houston. I seem to remember the summers as 95/95 heat and humidity every day. I have lived as far north as South Dakota, south in Houston and southern Florida (at least FL has an ocean breeze), far West as San Diego, east Norfolk VA and many places in between. The midwest seems to cook you all summer with heat and high humidity also, like Chicago and the Ohio river valley. Oh well, I still like the heat and humidity better than the cold.

We just refer to it as "Air you can wear" around here.
97% humidity this morning.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

RaT,
You do get acclimated. I moved to NH from MD 7 years ago. As others have pointed out the mid-Atlantic states are pretty sticky.

When we go back for family get togethers (always in the summer) my folks are comfortable; we from the north are whining about the heat and humidity and my brothers' family from Georgia are walking around in sweat pants and jackets /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Last year I had to change planes in Phoenix. I was on some stinkin' discount airline and had to go to "Ted" to continue my trip to San Fran. That required grabbing my luggage and walking about a mile outside to this stupid "Ted" terminal. The sign outside read 120 degrees!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif At that point, I'll admit, I couldn't tell if it was a dry heat or not; but it was way too hot for me!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I felt like I couldn't breathe. Now I really feel for our troops in Bagdad.

Oh yeah, I don't fly "Ted" anymore!
