Somewhat true, for the EAST coast of Florida -- that's the I-95 Route. The WEST (Gulf) coast of Florida you find more Midwesterners -- the I-75 Route.

Does that have something to do with the cost of living? Is there much difference in climate?

I don't think it has to do with the cost of living at all -- the travel route from the midwest down to Florida is via I-75 and from the eastern US it's via I-95. You will find most people that visit/move to Florida on the Gulf coast are from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, etc. and from the east coast of Florida are from New York, Mass, etc. This has been my observation since the 1960's.

The Gulf coast of Florida is much more laid back than the east coast which is also a reflection of Midwest vs. Eastern US. The climate is the same on either side.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

I been in Florida all my life, (45Years) and what a change. Yes we are full of NewYorkers retiring down here. Most just stay for 3-4 months. Stay away from the beach condos and gated golf course communities and you won't have a problem. woexcept the traffic is very heavy when they are all down here. The other bad news it they are paying anything for real estate and the prices are going through the roof. (That's OK I've made some good money buying & sellng real estate in the last few years.

As for the heat, sure it's hot and humid but it's livable. Hot is just hot, you wear shorts and t-shirts and no shoes to work in the yard. COLD HURTS..... and you have to get up and put all them **** clothes and boots on.... I like shorts and topsider shoes....

Air conditioning and swimming pools solve all the problems.

I guess I'm the opposite. Cold doesn't hurt. Hot does. I can always dress for the cold but can't take off enough clothes for the heat. I'd much rather work in 40 degrees than 90.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Isn't the real estate pricing unbelieveable. Folks not from parts of the West or East coast are perhaps clueless about the insanity of the prices. While our median home price hovers around $400,000 now, in reality, if your living in your own home and plan to move up, the price you can expect to pay will be closer to $700,000 to $1,000,000 for what amounts to a comparable home that I see listed in other parts of the country for $250,000 or less. It's ridiculous. I guess on the good side if it lasts is that I could eventually sell and move out of state to a far less costly area and be ahead. I don't know why it is where it it is price wise. I'm baffled.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Brian, I like a change in the season. We get a very nice change from summer to fall, my favorite time of the year. I agree about the cold. I can tolerate our cold (mid 30's), but the heat here when you have to work in it really zaps you. When you get to play in it like in Hawaii, then its fun. When I was younger, the heat was a non issue. Swimming pools lakes and rivers were king. I could put down roofs in 100 plus weather. Today I have either grown spoiled or wised up.

PS, the Suzuki ATV is going super

Glad to hear. A sad day last week for me as I sold my Suzuki 500. Still have the 250.

What about the bugs in Fla? Cockroaches the size of small planes and so on? Gators living in your pool, and snacking on the small dogs and kids? You know, stuff like that? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Just finished priming the new columns on our front porch and decided to check the weather at 11:30: temperature is 90 degrees, dew point is 64 and relative humidity is 40%. High should be around 96.

I really never noticed anymore bugs in Florida than anywhere else I have lived. Those aren't cockroaches, they are palmetto bugs which you think are small planes.

These things are rare, but highly publicized -- I'm surprised anyone is still living in Kansas with all those tornados /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Personally, I prefer Maryland by far over Florida, but I still like to squash many of the rumors in regards to my ol' State of FLA.
