Oh, yes, some of us believe it. In fact, we know for sure that it does. One of my friends and farmer neighbors in the hay business worked a great deal by himself, cutting, raking, and baling hay. When it came time to bale hay, he used two air-conditioned John Deere tractors; one to rake and one to bale. He'd rake awhile with the one, get out, leaving it running, and bale awhile with the other, get out, leaving it running, and rake again. Neither tractor was shut off all day. And he said if the air-conditioner went out on a tractor, you simply shut down and quit working until it's fixed.
Our temperature got to 97 today, and I'll bet any car parked in the sun with the windows up would have had an inside temperature of 120 or better.
