But a major trick to this is tyeing chicken gizzards around your wrist,sticking your arm down in water and hopeing the fish that clamps on to you does'nt outweigh you. :laughing:

I am installing a vacuum pump/air compressor in the barn to aerate the pond. It draws 5.3 amps. I was going to run it to a dedicated circuit breaker. How many amp breaker would be best? 10 amps or should I just hook it up to a 15 amp breaker?

I'm no electrician but I don't see a problem with 15 amp. While it only uses 5 amps it might use more on the startup. How have u been Brandi?

Thanks Ron. 15 amp breakers have many other uses than a 10 amp. I am doing well Thank You. I have one more week of physical therapy, then I go back to work on the 24th.

Brandi, the size of fuse is more often controlled by the gage of the wire leaving the fuse box, going to the receptacle. 15 amps is the normal size for a 14 gage wire. 20 amp is normal for a 12 gage wire. Protection for individual loads is normally done by a circuit breaker installed in the load circuits. So, your pump would work fine with the 14 ga/15 amp feed wire and it should have an internal breaker or motor overload protection built in.

How do you plan on controlling the pump? Are you plannng to use the breaker as a switch or put in a dedicated switch and/or receptacle? I recommend a motor control switch rather than a normal light switch. A circuit breaker is not a good choice for a switch because they are not designed to be switched off/on on a regular basis. A light switch may fail often due to the inductive load of the pump's motor. The best circuit would be to put in a motor control switch and a GFCI receptacle at the location of your hookup.

EDIT: If your pump has a built-in switch, all you need is a GFCI receptacle, of course.

Something that I'm doing in my ponds is adding more structure. With the water level so low, I'm seeing where the catfish have build nests under the logs and stumps that I had in there. I'm also seeing that when I go down to the water, close to those log piles, that the fish will take off from there. The waves and sometimes splashing is very impressive.

I'm adding more trees to the bottom of my ponds. From what I see in your pics, your pond looks pretty clean except for the cinder blocks. Have you considered putting a couple of trees in it? I'm not using any pines, but I've always been told that Christmas trees are great for this. I'm using my hardwoods that I take out. Oak, sweetgum and all the others that I have. Everything from one inch thick trees to about ten inches or so. Basically whatever I can pick up with my grapple and get down into the bottom of the pond without getting stuck!!! LOL

I had a large stump in the pond. But decided to remove it as it was too much. I thought about getting a 2-3 foot diameter culvert instead, but haven't. The submerged island gives a lot of ambush spots, but not cover. The deep end also has some small corners cut back into the sides. I decided to not have a stump in the pond because the deep end is so small and I thought it would hang up every deep water cast of a fishing line.
The attached photo shows me removing the stump after I changed my mind.

There is a large reservoir,Kinzua Dam/Allegheny Reservoir , near here that gets a large dose of Christmas trees every year for fish habitat.
