I forgot to turn on the air compressor last night and when I got home from PT today, I had 21 dead catfish and one perch. The perch I don't care about, but the 21 cats equaled 28 pounds. I had five left when I fished out the dead ones and they were gasping. When I finished burying them, all live ones had disappeared. When I went out at 7:30, one more had died. Now I only got 4 cats left.

I ordered a dedicated pond aerator last week:thumbsup:, so hopefully it will be here in a few days and get hooked up real fast. So the 3rd Saturday in Oct, I will get more channel cats and some blue cats. Sadness prevails.:ashamed:
hugs, Brandi

My condolences to you Brandi, I know it takes a good while to grow good cats. Good luck with your new ones, what kind of aerator will u buy?

Brandi, I'm sorry about your fish. That's got to be very disheartening.:( I have about 50 1-lb to 2-lb fish in my pond and I wouldn't want to put more in there until we get some rain. The cool weather has slowed evaporation, but we've had no rains to refill the pond.

Jim,
I thought I had graduated the school of hard knocks in fish rearin'. But guess I need to go back for a refresher course. I am debating about waiting for rain. Then again, as long as I have aeration, all should be find.

The new aerator pump came today. Now I have something, beside typing here, to do that won't tax my knee.

Boone,
Thanks for your concern.;) Two cats died overnight. Too much stress on them. So I have three left. Now I am just leaving the shop compressor on around the clock.

I now have the chance to get blue cats, again, who swim around like little sharks. They are the neatest, but the channels are easier to catch.

The Gast pump/compressor has a heavy duty motor with continuous duty rating, with a piston on each end of the motor with fans outboard of each piston. It is kinda neat, as you can see the connecting rods moving up and down with the motor shaft being the "crankshaft".
Maybe someday you can come over and "fish".:)

Sorry to hear about your catfish. It's a terrible feeling.

I've been digging out my small pond and trying to get it cleaned up, deeper and just a bit bigger. The area that still held water was only a foot or so deep. I dug a pit next to it so it would drain and allow me to get to the muddy silt after it dried out. I must have had several hundred fish in there. Cats up to a pound, and all sorts of everything else. I was really surprised and excited to see that so many fish where still alive and doing well in only a foot of water!!!

Eddie
