I got a new saw today

Fun little saw isn't it, don't you wish saws were still priced that low

I rally liked the 024 until I got the MS 170 and muffler modded. The MS 170 runs just as good and is lighter. I have always thought my 024 is low on power. I outcut my neighbor 029 so the power must be about right. I was looking the 024 over a little bit ago and noticed that it was only getting 75-80% throttle. I fixed it, and can't wait to try it tomorrow and see how it performs.

Yes, I wish saws were that cheap today. A new MS 261 is $600. They have a MS 241 that is out in certain areas now I think. I heard it is $550.

So far I am really liking this saw. I have almost 3 tanks through it. It has started on the first pull every time so far but once. The only bad thing I have to saw about it is loud. It is so loud I am thinking about wearing some kind of hearing protection.

I always wear hearing protection when running open station tractors, chainsaws, lawnmowers, etc. It is second nature to me now.

I got a pair of these I wear when I use the back pack leaf blower because it is a little loud.

I don't want to use them cutting wood because when I start splitting I'll lay them down and loose them. Ear plugs hurt my ears. I may get something like this.

Is it really louder than the 660 or just a higher pitch due to higher RPM? Stihl was forced to quiet the 660 down which is why it lost the dual port muffler and 0.5 hp

I tried the 024 today and it is out cutting the MS170 by 2 seconds in my test piece now that it is getting 100% throttle.

It is louder than the 660. I just put a dual port muffler cover on the 660 today. I may open up the 660 muffler more.

There was a guy here that died from a widow maker, well kind off. He was working for a guy (in his early 70's) that has cut timber his whole life. The guy went to cut a tree and the saw ran out of gas so he sent his helper to get the gas can out of the truck. On the way to the truck a widow maker fell out of the tree and hit the helper in the head. It knocked him to the ground and put a hole in his head. The guy he was working for and his son took him to the hospital. He walked to the truck, was talking just fine on the way to the hospital and was joking with his wife once she arrived at the hospital. They checked him out at the hospital and said he was fine. They were going to send him home after they put staples in his head. They put him to sleep to put the staples in his head and he never woke up. I think someone dropped the ball at the hospital and did not check him out properly. If he would have been wearing a hard hard the injuries may not have been as bad either.

I could get something like that and listen to Pandora on my phone. I could use them while I mow too:scratchchin:

I actually got some earplugs at Homeboydepot today. They are a little different style and may be more comfortable.

There was a guy here that died from a widow maker, well kind off..

Reminds me of a guy who had a big leaner on top of a cliff. He wanted more view and would not listen to anyone to have a professional fall the tree down to the beach below. He had zero experience but had the money to buy a big saw. Numerous warnings had no impact on this guy and one day he fired up his shiny new saw and starting cutting the uphill side. He probably thought "this is great, none of that pinching I heard about". That was probably the last thing he thought..... You guessed it.. the tree barber chaired and decapitated him. I thought about offering to buy the saw from his girlfriend but reconsidered.
