I got a new saw today

Does anybody know what I need to do to put a bigger set of dogs on it? I thought I saw somewhere that I need to put a roller chain catcher on it.

Just wait chances are you eventually you will think it latched and you will end up loosing a tank of fuel or oil. I had my 361 running for about 3 or 4 minutes before the cap popped and drained my saw. Maybee the have improved the design on the newest saws

If that happens I will probably get it all over my pants.

I need to figure out it I have a HD clutch cover. I wonder if a oversize set like that would be better than a set of OEM style? I know it will cut down on my actual cutting length.

my 660 has significantly longer teeth it's definitely nice on wood that is iregularly shaped.

Do you carry that on your Tractor?

I remembered I forgot to answer you. No I don't carry it on the tractor. I don't have any way to carry any saw on the tractor. I have a couple of smaller saws that would be better to carry on the tractor.

These are stock but stick out way farther than those on my 361 I loose 1.5 - 2" of bar length from what I recall. I'm guessing the hd clutch cover has holes and a place to mount the second set of dogs to it.

I think the clutch cover has holes in it. I'll have to check to be sure. I think you loose 2'' with 660 dogs. i may get something for the 170 while I am it. The dogs are plastic and built into the case on it. It has holes for dogs. Nice saws BTW.

While you are messing with the 361 muffler mod it. It seems like every time I log on a forum I see something else I want. I guess the good thing about forums is we can learn stuff that helps save ourselves money.

Hey 94 Bullitt,
Welcome to the STIHL family. I have 4 STIHL's and wouldnt have anything else. MS251, 038, 038 Super and a MS 660 Mag. The 038 and 038 super have over 12,000 cord each on them, and ive always used STIHL mixable engine oil. Never had a minutes problem other than an oiler pump gears wearing out. I run over the 038 with the skidder and had to replace a handle and a few little parts but they are built tough. My 660 i bought in the begining of February, its cut about 100 cord so far, It was a new saw but i think it was 1 year old, never owned or used. A 2014 model was $1184, i got this from my dealer for $ 600 :cool2: with a 25" STIHL bar and full chipper chain. The 42" bar from our big Husky fits my STIHL and handles it better too. Good choice of saws .. . John
