Larry, you are so right when you point that out. Talk about taxpayer money going to waste. I would have called the news media and let that story go out to the public. I would have even given out the names of the scum involved on both sides and let the populace have some fun with them. What a way to run the scum out of town. That is a disgrace and abuse of the system. I know someone that works for the school system in Worcester. She told me that they could downsize by about 50% in her office. The people there don't do anything but shoot the bull and walk around all day. She use to be a school crossing guard. She would put in for 1 hour each morning and afternoon. She was TOLD that she would be paid 2 hours for each and to keep quiet about it.

Oops, Jim, maybe you just can't win. I filled up with gas this morning for $2.529 a gallon, and noticed that diesel was $.30 a gallon cheaper. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Bird,

Around here in Decatur right now it depends on where you're buying fuel. Some places have the diesel higher by about ten cents a gallon and some had gas and diesel about even last night. That's happened before and as I said in my initial post, it lasted several days and then diesel went back up to the 15-25 cents a gallon higher.

You know Bird, at this point, I'm convinced that I've done the right thing, for me at least. I can't speak for anyone else and I realize that too. As some in here have said, they own diesel Dodges and their stated fuel mileage is 20mpg. That's great for them, but I personally am not a Dodge person, in any way. I also need a 4X4 for around here and for hunting, so a 2 wheel drive anything won't do me worth a flip either. We don't even allow 2 wheel drive trucks up at the cabin in Colorado because we've had them drive up OK at the beginning of first rifle season when the weather was good, but by the end of the first season, due to snow, ice, or bad rain, theywere not be able to get back down due to road conditions.

It depends on each person's needs and as I evaluated my needs, I could go either way with gas or diesel, and gas all the way around was the least expensive way to go for me. Not just the fuel, although that's the MAJOR constant, but also those oil changes and other maintenance. I honestly believe that diesel fuel will continue to remain higher in price, as the general rule, due to a number of factors going on right now as I stated earlier too.

If diesel works for a person, than more power to them (literally and figuratively). Only time will tell if I made the right decision, but like I said before, I feel real good about the decision I made for me and there's a lot to be said for "feeling good".

Let me add that I fully expected the continued diesel vs gasoline price variation in cost and that at times, diesel would get a little cheaper than the gas. It's the overall yearly picture I'm betting on, on a nationwide basis, that gasoline will be cheaper than the diesel prices.

I also expect many Thank You notes from diesel drivers for this recent drop in diesel price too!! Afterall, my buying a gas engine is what has caused it!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Now Now Pete, Don't take it personal. I only said so and so because I was too lazy to look up and see who wrote about me and my post. As for the greedy slobs. I didn't call you a greedy slob either. That statement was aimed at the corporations themselves.)

No problem Jim, hence the little smiley faces in my reply.

On this we can agree!

yes, thank you, unclebuck-- however, i filled up a few days ago. but, anyway, keep driving the gas truck and keep the diesel price down ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jim, nice wood pile- you have it all stacked by now? I just finished stacking a similar sized pile and have started on the "extras" (kindling, spare wood, etc.). Today in the mail I got a price list for the wood furnaces-- the unit i'm interested in, to heat 3000 sq ft max, cost like 4000.00 or so. but, still gotta think about it...

Don't complain. In Australia we pay about au$1.20 per ltr or au$5.30 per gal which is about us$4.00 per gal. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Would love to pay only $2.529 a gallon. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Art,

The pile is not piled up yet. There is a very large24' 2 ton object (boat) sitting in the way of me building my woodshed. Hopefully the end of the month it will be with its new owner. Then I can put up the woodshed.

I'm sure many of you, like me, remember back in 72 when we had the other big fuel crunch. Back then they were trying to get us accumstomed to fuel closer to $1.00 per gallon

It was early 1979 or 1980 before the gas prices here hit a $1.00 a gallon. I think gas was around .45/.50 a gallon in 1973 and went to .70 during the embargo/shortage of that period.

There was a big dip in gasoline prices in the late 1990's. I remember paying $0.679 for regular unleaded in the summer of 1998 or 1999 before they started creeping back up.

I also remember paying $1.099 for diesel late in 2001!
